Costco Vanden Bulcke Petit Melo Review

Chocolate-covered marshmallows aren’t typically my go-to treat, but the vibrant packaging of these Petit Melo Belgian Chocolate Covered Marshmallows from Costco definitely caught my attention! Made in Belgium with sustainably sourced chocolate, they’re surprisingly delicious, and the marshmallow inside has a wonderfully light and fluffy texture that complements the rich chocolate flavors perfectly.

Location in Store

I found these in the middle of the store calling to me with their bright packaging! They were by the Sweet Maui Onion Kettle Chips and the Cedar Valley Pita Chips. The item number is 1876091.

Taste

I tried all six flavors of marshmallows and what I’ll say first is that the marshmallow center in each of them is the same. The marshmallow is soft, spongey, slightly chewy and not very sweet at all which is nice because the chocolate itself is pretty sweet.

Milk chocolate vanilla – This one has yummy milk chocolate that’s quite sweet, there’s also a bit of crunchy bits in the chocolate.

Dark chocolate vanilla- The dark chocolate seems to be pretty good quality, there’s nothing exciting about this one but it’s still nice.

White chocolate caramel- This one is very sweet but also very tasty. I love the little crunchy bits on top. It tastes like a white chocolate with a hint caramel.

Milk chocolate hazelnuts- It doesn’t have much of a hazelnut flavor, tastes mainly like milk chocolate. The bottom is where there may be a hint of hazelnut flavor but it’s not much.

Dark chocolate raspberry- This one is really good, probably my second favorite. There’s a raspberry liquid on the bottom that’s nice and sweet and crunchy raspberry flavored bits on top. The dark chocolate goes well with the raspberry.

White chocolate mocha – This one is definitely my favorite. It has a strong, noticeable artificial mocha flavor. It’s quite sweet nd creamy.

Cost

The 340 gram box contains 34 individually wrapped marshmallows and costs $16.99 Canadian which is not cheap! That’s about fifty cents per marshmallow.

Convenience

There are six different flavors in the box and there are six of each flavor except for the dark chocolate raspberry. There are only four of those. Each marshmallow is individually wrapped so they’re perfect for sharing with others or pop in your purse, backpack or lunch bag. The best before date is about a year and three months from when I bought them.

Nutrition

Calories

Four Petit Melos contain 170 calories, seven grams of fat, 25 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 24 grams of sugar, two grams of protein and 20 milligrams of sodium. I think one or two of these at most will satisfy any sweet tooth! In case you’re wondering, one chocolate covered marshmallow contains 43 calories.

Ingredients

Of course the first ingredient is sugar! These aren’t healthy at all and I’m disappointed they contain “candy sugar syrup”, wheat, palm oils and additives. The chocolate covered marshmallows contain hazelnuts, milk, soy and wheat and may contain other tree nuts, peanuts and egg.
