Costco Upper Crust Bakery Birthday Cake Bites Review

If you’re a fan of birthday cake flavor, the Upper Crust Bakery Birthday Cake Bites from Costco might be right up your alley. These perfectly portioned, two-bite treats come in a pack of 24 at a reasonable price. But are they tasty enough to earn a spot on your Costco shopping list? Let’s find out!

Location in Store

The birthday cake bites are located in the bakery section, near the Kirkland Signature Dessert Variety Bars and the Kirkland Signature Variety Mini Donuts. The item number is 4677304.

Taste

They smell like confetti cake mix cake, but they’re not quite as flavorful. They’re quite sweet, but the birthday cake flavor is a bit underpowered. With that being said, they’re pretty good. They were fairly moist, even after several days on the counter.

If you enjoy confetti cake, you’ll enjoy these Birthday Cake Bites. I find a lot of Costco’s packaged bakery items (the ones not made in store) are disappointing because they use more artificial ingredients to extend their shelf life, but in this case, that isn’t a huge problem because birthday cake cakes and birthday-cake-themed desserts often are too!

Cost

The 850 gram plastic container costs $12.99 Canadian and contains about 24 bites which isn’t really that expensive in my opinion!

Convenience

Unfortunately these may contain tree nuts so that means they’re not school safe but they don’t have any nuts or peanuts actually listed in the ingredients. The best before date on the birthday cake bites is about two weeks from when I purchased the bites.

My toddler loved these but there was no way she was going to finish them off before the best before date so I popped them in the freezer. They freeze really well and you can just take one or two out to defrost at a time.

Nutrition

Calories

Two birthday cake bites contain 260 calories, 11 grams of fat, 40 grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, 28 grams of sugar, two grams of protein and 170 milligrams. The birthday cake bites definitely aren’t low in sugar, calories, carbohydrates or fat.

Ingredients

It’s no surprise the first ingredient is sugar and there’s a lot of unhealthy ingredients in these. I dislike seeing things like soybean oil, soy flour, artificial flavour, corn syrup, palm oil and carrageenan. I prefer to bake from scratch so I know exactly what’s going into my cupcakes and can avoid unnecessary ingredients. The birthday cake bites contain wheat, egg, soy and milk and may contain tree nuts.

Overall

Give it a try!!

These cake bites are actually pretty tasty but they’re not at all healthy for you, which isn’t surprising considering they’re a store-bought processed bakery item!
