Costco Scoiattolo Mushrooms & Mozzarella Ravioli Review

Ravioli is the perfect combination of comfort and satisfaction, and it can be incredibly convenient too! The Scoiattolo Ravioli with Mushrooms & Mozzarella is ready in just minutes and features a delicious blend of five different types of mushrooms. Even if you’re not a fan of mushrooms, don’t let that stop you, it’s not as mushroom heavy as you might expect and definitely worth a try!

Location in Store

This pasta is located in the refrigerated deli section at Costco, near the Rana Beef & Short Rib Lasagna and the Olivieri Skillet Gnocchi. The item number is 5551405.

Taste

I like this ravioli even though I didn’t expect to because I’m not the biggest fan of mushrooms! You really can’t taste the mushrooms in the filling, you mainly taste the cheese which is mascarpone and mozzarella. If you’re hoping for tons of strong mushroom flavor, you may be a bit disappointed.

There’s a definite hint of mushroom but it’s not strong at all. The texture of the pasta is really soft and tender, not soggy but not at all hard or too chewy. If you like any ravioli at all, I can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t like this. Is it as good as ravioli I’d be served at a fancy Italian restaurant? No, but it’s pretty tasty!

Cost

This comes with two 454-gram packs of ravioli and costs $14.99 Canadian regularly. I was able to snag it on sale for three dollars off though. In my opinion, each pack of ravioli is enough to serve two adults and two children, three adults or two adults with leftovers.

Convenience

This ravioli is so simple to make and is literally done in minutes, all you need to do is pop the ravioli in boiling water for about three minutes. I wasn’t sure about what kind of sauce to pair this with so I decided on tossing it in melted butter and sprinkling with parmesan which was really good. I think it would also pair well with a tomato based sauce and even go fine with a white sauce.

The ravioli needs to be kept refrigerated and the best before date is about a month from when I purchased it. You could probably freeze it if you’re not going to use it by the best before date but I haven’t personally tried that.

Nutrition

Calories

A one and a half cup serving contains 450 calories, 15 grams of fat, 64 grams of carbohydrates, six grams of fibre, 10 grams of sugar, 15 grams of protein and 1110 milligrams of sodium. That’s a ton of calories, carbs and sodium and not that much protein to keep you feeling full! This is definitely not the best meal for anyone trying to really watch what they’re eating.

Ingredients

The ravioli has five different kinds of mushrooms in it! I don’t love seeing sunflower oil, MSG and natural flavour but all of the other ingredients seem pretty appropriate to be in a packaged, store-bought ravioli. The ravioli contains wheat, eggs and milk and may contain walnuts, pine nuts, pistachios, crab, shrimp, lobster, tuna, salmon, cod, soy and mustard.

Give it a try!

I like the flavor of the filling and enjoyed the pasta texture and taste. I don’t love the nutrition facts but I don’t think low calorie/carbohydrate ravioli exists.
