Costco Reser’s Main St. Bistro Baked Bacon Macaroni & Cheese Review

When it comes to comfort food, baked macaroni and cheese is one of the first dishes that comes to mind. This Costco Reser’s Main St. Bistro Baked Bacon Macaroni & Cheese takes classic mac and cheese and elevates the flavor by adding smoky bacon. It sounds delicious and since it’s ready to heat and eat it seems like a convenient option to grab on your next Costco run.

Location in Store

This is located in the refrigerated deli section at Costco, near the fresh pasta, cheese and cold cut meat. The item number is 1845403.

Taste

I’ve tried the Kirkland Signature Mac and Cheese as well as the Beecher’s World’s Best Mac and Cheese from Costco and this is by far my favorite. At first glance after baking it, the macaroni and cheese appears extremely cheesy and creamy.

This bacon macaroni & cheese is extremely flavorful and has a very strong, rich, cheesy flavor. It’s salty but not too salty and overall is really flavorful. If you like bacon, you’ll love this because there’s a lot of small pieces of bacon and a noticeable smoky, bacon flavor in each bite.

I followed the cooking instructions for the macaroni and cheese and the noodles came out perfectly soft but not mushy. This also isn’t dry, it’s very creamy and there’s no shortage of sauce.

Cost

The 1.13 kilogram package costs $19.99 Canadian. This isn’t cheap considering it’s only pasta and bacon but after trying the macaroni and cheese I think it’s reasonable.

You’re also paying for the convenience. A small serving is quite filling so this could easily serve a family of four with leftovers.

Convenience

You can either bake or microwave the mac and cheese, I decided to microwave it and it turned out great, it wasn’t dried out at all. Alternatively. you can also bake the macaroni and cheese.

The best before date is about three weeks from when I purchased it and the mac and cheese needs to be kept refrigerated. You can also freeze the mac and cheese if you’re not going to use it by the best before date.

My toddler who’s bacon obsessed really enjoyed this and I think a lot of kids would like it. I gave some to my parents and they also really liked it.

Nutrition

Calories

This isn’t low in calories but based on the taste I didn’t expect it to be. A one and one quarter cup serving contains 710 calories, 48 grams of fat, 36 grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, six grams of sugar, 35 grams of protein and 1410 milligrams of sodium. That’s a ton of sodium and a ton of fat in one serving!

Ingredients

The ingredients list is pretty long with some ingredients I don’t love seeing like corn syrup solids and sugars. The macaroni and cheese contains pork, wheat, eggs and milk.

  1. I love Resers products and they are my go to side dishes(except their deli salads). They make a white cheddar mac and cheese which is the best store bought mac n cheese I’ve had.
Would love to try this but sadly, my tummy can’t do bacon and cheese together but it does sound amazing
