Costco carries convenient fresh pasta! Family dinner done in the microwave.
Today I’m reviewing pasta from Costco! The Rana Tagliatelle Seasoned White Chicken & Mushroom Sauce. This was a product I had to make a case for! Once glance at it and Sean muttered “I’m not eating that”. I get it, he hates mushrooms and also doesn’t love any kind of creamy sauce. I always win though so not only did this end up in our cart to review today but Sean ate it this past weekend! I’ve reviewed a few pasta products from Costco in the past including the Costco Kirkland Signature Mediterranean Pasta Salad, Costco Garofalo Organic Pasta, Costco Kirkland Signature Chicken Penne Alfredo and the Costco Kirkland Signature Meat Lasagna!
I found this product in the refrigerated section by the other fresh pasta. The item number is 1182348.
Taste
Fresh tagliatelle pasta, creamy mushroom sauce and seasoned white chicken all come in the Rana pasta kit from Costco. The sauce has Portobello mushrooms, parmesan cheese, white wine and heavy cream (all the good stuff). The tagliatelle is a durum wheat semolina fresh pasta and the chicken is very well seasoned.
This actually turned out to be pretty tasty! Sean even liked it despite his lack of love for mushrooms and creamy sauces. We both commented that the pasta tasted very fresh and despite being microwaved was cooked to a perfect al-dente state. The mushroom sauce didn’t actually have much of a strong mushroom flavor and was seasoned well and flavorful, extremely creamy, thin enough to evenly coat the pasta. The chicken was my least favorite part, slightly tough and little processed tasting but it had a nice smoky flavor.
The chicken reminds me of the Costco Fresh Additions Fully Cooked Chicken Breast Bites if you’ve ever had those before.
Cost
I paid $13.49 Canadian for the 1.14 kilogram package of tagliatelle, mushroom sauce and chicken. The best before date was about 2 weeks from the date I purchased the fresh pasta from Costco.
In the package you get one large black microwaveable tray and three seperate packages of the mushroom sauce, fresh tagliatelle and seasoned white chicken. $13.49 is not bad for the kit but this only fed two adults (one having quite a large appetite). I think you’d struggle to feed two adults and two teenagers with one pasta kit but two adults and two little ones would be doable.
Convenience
Talk about convenient! Dinner is ready in the microwave in just eight minutes. All you have to do to prepare the pasta is layer your pasta, sauce and chicken in the black tray, microwave it and mix it up.
This Rana Tagliatelle Seasoned White Chicken & Mushroom Sauce is perfect for nights when you don’t feel like cooking or need to get dinner on the table and mouths fed fast!
Nutrition
One prepared cup of tagliatelle with mushroom sauce and chicken is 270 calories, 13 grams of fat, 590 mg of sodium, three grams of sugar, two grams of fibre, 14 grams of protein and 24 grams of carbohydrates. Who eats only a cup of pasta? Definitely not me!
This isn’t really that healthy nor is it vegetarian, gluten-free or vegan. It does have a decent amount of protein and even if you had two cups it wouldn’t be outrageously high in calories or fat.

This one is a no for me.
I enjoyed the organic alfredo version of Rana, and this shares the chicken and pasta, but the mushroom version just tastes like cream of mushroom soup. I like fresh mushrooms raw or cooked, in a sauce or sauteed, but these just were the rubbery canned taste.

We were trying to find out if the sauce was vegetarian and that helped.
Purchased this at Costco on Long Island. Very disappointed in the product. Does not look like the picture, very few mushrooms, if any in this dish. Taste is bland and the chicken tastes like it might be processed chicken. My wife added sliced portabello
mushrooms and some spinach to increase the taste. My wife is a great cook, she can run circles around Mr. Rana!
Both me and my husband really enjoyed it. I would probably cook a veggie with it the next time we have it. The chicken was delicious as well as the sauce. We will have it again. Next time I will buy an extra one to freeze. Thank you.

This dish is at most 4 servings. And while the taste is good, I feel as though it lacks a bit in spices. It’s also a bit too thick so that when microwaved, it loses a lot of moisture and becomes almost dry, so could use a bit more liquid. In addition, the amount of chicken seems a bit lacking for how much pasta there is.
On the subject of the chicken, the texture is a bit too soft, feels slightly off. Not sure if it’s because it needs more than 8 minutes in the microwave but it feels just barely cooked.
The pasta is the only thing that I would term perfect, it cooks very well which usually isn’t the case with microwaved pasta. Overall this dish needs some adjustments and would probably be better cooked on the stovetop. The packaging needs to include some stovetop instructions.
I thought this was a great product try adding a 1/4 cup of red wine to the instructions! From the packaging to the taste…you captured my interest as I will Be back for more! …..and only in 12 minutes!👍

Not worth the cost and the taste was missing. This is basically cream of mushroom soup with some pasta and chicken. The flavor was lacking taste so I had to add a bunch of seasoning to get it somewhat edible.
Buy fresh pasta at the grocery store, grab a can of cream of mushroom, and add your own chicken. Probably looking at 20min total for something much better.
I find this brand to be a ripoff- so much less food than stated! SIX servings?! Only if you’re serving it as a side dish. The chicken included was the amount of one healthy sized chicken breast- now how does that equal to six servings of a meal??? The taste is ok but not good enough to make up for this ripoff!
So true, actually says 7 servings… 2 cups sauce, 10 oz. cooked Pasta, (for 7 servings????) 8 oz. chicken..(that’s just over an ounce per serving!!!)
Taste was OK for an easy meal – but would not purchase again.
We really like this meal. However, the English directions are almost impossible to read. The tan on brown is pretty but doesn’t work.
I agree with everything I’ve read on this page and agree with everyone. I think these Rama meal’s are great and very easy to make.
I purchased this on sale in my Memphis, TN, Costco on sale for $6.99. I would say this feeds three, far from the advertised seven! Add a salad and dinner is done in less than 15 minutes. My husband and I loved the mushroom flavored cream sauce. So many times dishes with “mushroom” flavor have no mushroom taste. The sauce coverage was perfect for the provided noodles. We enjoyed it so much we went back and purchased another. Now I wish I had purchased a couple while they were still on sale but we do not usually eat packaged meals.
I bought this at Costco Jan. 23, 2023. It was on sale for $3 off. It was tasty, but the label is incorrect about the number of servings. Since I have started tracking my food intake in the hope of losing weight, I measured it out by the cupful. There are nowhere near 7 cups. There are 6 scant cups. Overall, especially since it was on sale, this was still a good buy, but when you are trying to keep up with calories or fat, it is important for the label to be correct. So, instead of 270 calories per serving, there are 315. That doesn’t sound like much to someone who is not counting, but when you are, you are. It does also mean you have fewer & smaller servings than expected. It was very easy and tasty, though! I would have bought more than one if it had been frozen instead of refrigerated. Based on a comment here, sounds like I could pop it in freezer and it still work.
I purchased this on sale and by accident, it was placed immediatly in the freezer. I had been hesitating, thinking the freezing would ruin the contents as it is a “micro ready” Item. I took it out, let it rest for a day in the fridge and we then mixed and cooked it. Perfect? No indication that Freezing damanged it in any way. Its a processed meal but it is what it is. READY! The flavour was excellent. I used my kitchen shears and cut up the pasta a bit, stirred in the chicken pieces after snipping them in half. Poured on the sauce and really mixed it well. I know this is not what the bag calls for but I would do that again. One piece of parchment and then plastic wrap. Two holes for ventilation. I cooked it on my auto cycle in the microwave. THen I geve it 6 mins on Med. No dishes, nothing to hunt down. If I was going to a chalet or cottage, this would be a swell choice. I would also add some asparagus or brocolli without hesitation. Great kit. Much better than expected! Two thumbs up!
How come Costco doesn’t have this anymore? Will they have it again?
