Costco Puravida Fire Roasted Root Vegetables Review

If you’re often pressed for time and struggle to wash, chop, and prepare healthy vegetables, the Puravida Fire Roasted Root Vegetables from Costco are the perfect solution. This medley of sweet potatoes, parsnips, orange carrots, and red onions offers a convenient side dish with a unique fire roasted flavor!

You can find these in the freezer section at Costco and the item number is 1874356, they’re near the Nature’s Classic Edamame and the Nature’s Touch Frozen Broccoli Florets.

Taste

Immediately upon opening the bag before even heating the root vegetables I noticed the fire roasted smell. They definitely have a smoky, charred smell and a very subtle fire roasted flavor. I’m not sure if I like the fire roasted flavor, I find it almost makes the vegetables taste a bit dirty. The root vegetables in the mix are parsnips, sweet potato, orange carrots and purple onion.

I noticed there aren’t many onions and I wish there were more because I think they’d add more flavor. There isn’t much salt or seasoning on the root vegetables so you basically only taste the flavor of the vegetables combined with a bit of smokiness. Root vegetables taste a lot sweeter than green vegetables like asparagus or broccoli.

Cost

The 1.8 kilogram bag costs $18.99 Canadian at Costco. I wouldn’t say this mix is cheap because sweet potatoes, parsnips, orange carrots and red onions are pretty cheap on their own from the grocery store. You’re definitely paying for the convenience.

Convenience

The bag has a best before date that’s about a year from when we purchased it and the root vegetables need to be kept frozen. This makes a really easy side to go with steak, pork chops or chicken. I microwaved my root vegetables but I think they’d taste much better in the air fryer.

I also recommend this mix or the Puravida Fire Roasted Vegetable Primavera for meal prepping as it’s an easy way to add some healthy carbs to your lunches! Another idea I have for these root vegetables is to use them to make power bowls with chicken, quinoa, avocado, black beans and some kind of sauce like salsa or aioli!

A 2/3 cup serving contains 70 calories, two grams of fat, 13 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, three grams of sugar, one gram of protein and 240 milligrams of sodium. That’s pretty low in calories, sodium, carbohydrates and sugar!

Ingredients

The ingredients list is phenomenal, short and sweet with root vegetables being the main ingredients with extra virgin olive oil, Himalayan sea salt and pepper as the only seasonings. The root vegetables are gluten-free as well as dairy-free.

I’m not sure I like the fire roasted/charred flavor and I feel like the mix is pretty expensive and you’re paying mainly for the convenience. I really appreciate that they used extra virgin olive oil instead of some other unhealthy seed oil.
