Costco Pulmuone Kimchi & Vegetable Dumplings Review

I love dumplings! They’re one of my favorite appetizers to make at home and I almost always have a package of them in my freezer. These Pulmuone Kimchi & Vegetable Dumplings might be the most unusual type of dumpling I’ve seen at Costco. I don’t mind kimchi, but a little goes a long way for me. Does it work as the main ingredient in the filling of these dumplings?

I can’t believe how many different kinds of dumplings and potstickers I’ve tried from Costco! I’ve tried the Bibigo Steamed Dumplings, Synear Soup Dumplings, Summ! Sesame Ginger Chicken Gyoza Dumplings, Ajinomoto Ling Ling Potstickers, Siwin Chicken Potstickers, Bibigo Chicken and Cilantro Wontons and the Bibigo Beef Bulgogi Mandu. I’ve also reviewed the Hankook Original Kimchi if you’re more interested in kimchi than dumplings.

Location in Store

These dumplings are located in the freezer section at Costco and the item number is 1564639.

These dumplings have no meat so are perfect for vegetarians!

Taste

I usually like any dumpling I try but I didn’t absolutely love these, they’re okay. I like kimchi but I’ve never had it in a dumpling so I found these a bit strange tasting. They’re somewhat spicy, I’d say the spice level is about a medium. The dumplings are loaded full of kimchi, they’re not too salty which I like.

The texture of the dumpling wrapper is slightly chewy and the bottom got nice and crispy on the bottom after pan frying them. There’s a real, noticeable kimchi flavor so if you like kimchi you’ll enjoy them. Although they’re not my favorite dumpling, I still found them tasty and my parents loved them.

Cost

The 1.13 kilogram bag costs $14.49 Canadian at Costco which seems reasonable to me. You get quite a few dumplings in one bag.

Convenience

There are a few different ways to cook the dumplings. They can be cooking in a pan, an air fryer or in the microwave. We cooked them in the pan using the “bottom crispy” method and they turned out great.

The dumplings need to be kept frozen and the best before date is over a year and a half from when I bought them. You could serve these with some soy sauce but honestly they’re flavorful enough that they don’t need any additional sauce. The bag doesn’t come with any sauce packets either.

I recommend pan frying the dumplings rather than microwaving them.

Nutrition

Calories

Two dumplings contain 130 calories, five grams of fat, 16 grams of carbohydrates, four grams of fibre, three grams of sugar, seven grams of protein and 440 milligrams of sodium. That’s quite a bit of sodium for only two dumplings! I think a lot of people could easily eat four of these or more in one sitting.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is really long with some ingredients I like to see like cabbage, radish and sweet potato noodles and lots of ingredients I don’t love seeing. Some ingredients I don’t love seeing are soybean oil, disodium inosinate and guanylate, canola oil and glucose fructose.

Overall

Give it a try if you like kimchi!

I wasn’t a huge fan of these but my parents really enjoyed them. I prefer the Bibigo Steamed Dumplings over these.

Have you tried the Pulmuone Kimchi & Vegetable Dumplings? What did you think of them?
