Costco Olympic Craft Meats Southern Crunch Chicken Wings Review

Chicken wings are a favorite snack, appetizer, and meal across North America, celebrated for their versatility. Whether crispy, crunchy, saucy, seasoned, or a mix of all these qualities, they’re always a crowd-pleaser. I only recently discovered my love for wings, and when I came across Olympic Craft Meats Southern Crunch Chicken Wings at Costco, I knew I had to try them. I was expecting a delicious, finger-licking crunch, did they live up to the hype?

Location in Store

These are located in the freezer aisle at Costco near the Kirkland Signature Frozen Chicken Breasts and the Pinty’s Crispy Chicken Wings. The item number is 2544848.

Taste

I baked the wings in my oven and they still came out soggy even though I cooked them for much longer than the bag recommends. They’re pretty fatty and not as crispy as they could be. I also notice they feel and taste pretty greasy.

The breading is quite salty and has the slightest hint of spice but is fairly tasty. There’s quite a bit of breading on each wing so even though the wings are in general soggy, the breading gives them still a bit of crunch. There’s a decent amount of meat on the wings but there’s also a lot of breading.

I’ve definitely had better wings, the quality of meat isn’t great and the breading is kind of heavy and soggy despite appearing crunchy. Part of this is probably due to heating the wings in the oven versus the air fryer.

Cost

The two kilogram bag costs $25.99 Canadian and there aren’t as many wings in the bag as you may think there’d be! This is because each wing is heavily breaded and they’re quite large.

Convenience

The wings need to be kept frozen and have a best before date that’s about 10 months from when I purchased them. These work well as an appetizer, snack, lunch or even dinner! I recommend grabbing your favorite sauce for the wings since they’re a bit dry without any dip.

There are air fryer and conventional oven heating instructions on the bag and the wings are already fully cooked so you’re essentially just heating them up. They come in a resealable bag with a pull tab so you can easily store them in your freezer.

Nutrition

Calories

Three wings contain 220 calories, 13 grams of fat, nine grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, one gram of sugar, 15 grams of protein and 540 milligrams of sodium. I honestly thought there’d be more carbohydrates and calories in three wings

Ingredients

The first ingredient is chicken which I like seeing! The other ingredients are actually pretty simple and I want to point out this is not the unhealthiest ingredients list I’ve ever seen! The wings contain soy and wheat and are dairy free.

Overall

Walk on by!

I wanted to love these wings but sadly find they fall short in a lot of areas. I’ve had better wings from Costco like the Kirkland Signature Seasoned Chicken Wings and probably wouldn’t buy these again.

Have you tried these Costco Olympic Craft Meats Southern Crunch Chicken Wings? What did you think of them?

  1. Hello Natalie, thanks for the review! I’ve seen these wings in local Costco, and I will not buy them simply because they look like they have way too much butter on them! The bag looks like that the wings would be half batter half the way to the bag 2/3 possibly appear to be batter, which is garbage in my opinion! Who wants to eat a bunch of bread when they’re eating wings that’s basically what the coding is flour and all kinds of other crap, putting a super thick layer on the wings and totally ruining the taste of the wings! I saw these and I would never buy them because I don’t like thick piles of crap on my wings when it comes to batter! I find wings are the same thing pub style wings are way too much batter. It’s a way to make the bag heavier make it look like you’re getting more for your money with very cheap ingredients like flour and other stuff! so until they make proper wings with like 1/3 the amount of this kind of batter I will no longer be buying any wings that look like this from anywhere! It’s a cheap way to add filler to the bag make it seem like it’s heavier and you’re getting more when all you’re getting is a small amount of wings and a lot of crap coating on them! Wings with too much better or simply disgusting! I really think batter is also used to hide how much fat they’ve left on the wings! That’s why they taste greasy and fatty because they left all the fat on them as well then coded them really heavily so you wouldn’t see it! The wings I prefer are the Costco prepared wings in the store that they sell by the meat department that have Costco‘s excellent tasty thin coating on there. There are the best wings I’ve ever tasted bought from a store and I’m talking about their fresh wings! I buy a $30-$35 container of those every once in a while and I get a bunch of Ziploc bags and put 10 to 12 wings in each bag and freeze them and then make one batch at a time when I want wings! And Costco‘s wings are basically all meat and almost no batter at all. It’s just there for flavour it’s not a thick crusty pile of garbage on your wings! I’ve been buying the Costco wings from the meat department for years already and I absolutely love them! They took them away once and tried to replace them with Korean wings, but nobody was buying those at all! So they went back to their original wings that they were selling for years, thank God! Obviously enough people complained about the Korean wings and wanted the original Kirkland brand Costco meat department wings back instead! Don’t get rid of something that everybody loves. It’s ridiculous to do this! The Korean wings didn’t look tasty at all. I think I might’ve bought them once and I didn’t like them to Costco ones were much better! Have a nice day, Natalie! Keep up the great work!

  2. Sorry to. To agree with you but I thought these were the best chicken wings I have ever had. I did cook them in the air fryer at 390 degrees for 14 to 20 minutes, turning them half way. I did do them in a silicone liner and there was very little grease. Also liked the little bit of heat!

  3. The problem with these chicken wings is the nutritional info is completely off if three wings equals 100 G then there would be 60 wings in the bag and you know that’s not true it’ll be lucky if there are 30 wings

If there are 30 Wings in the bag then that means that the info for three wings needs to be doubled twice as much fat and calories and twice as much sodium
