Costco Kirkland Signature Mango Passion Fruit Mousse Cake Review

I love all desserts, but some of my favorites are pretty heavy and they aren’t quite as enjoyable on a hot summer day. When I saw this Kirkland Signature Mango Passion Fruit Mousse Cake at my local Costco, I thought it sounded like the perfect dessert for summer. A light mousse with the delicious, refreshing flavors of mango and passion fruit – could this be Costco’s best summer dessert?

The Costco bakery has had some really amazing desserts lately like the Kirkland Signature Biscoff Cake, Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Chocolate Mousse Cake, Kirkland Signature Peanut Butter Chocolate Cream Pie, Kirkland Signature Oatmeal Cranberry White Chocolate Cookies, Kirkland Signature Raspberry Cheesecake, Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Cake and the Kirkland Signature Tiramisu.

This is the perfect dessert for any summer birthday or celebration.

This can be found in the refrigerated bakery section of Costco. The item number is 1806198.

Taste

I won’t keep you in suspense; this cake is great. It’s light and flavorful without being overly sweet. It’s a perfect summer dessert.

As you can see in the photos, there’s a white cake base, a layer of mousse and then a glaze on top. There’s also some icing and white chocolate chunks in one part of the cake.

An absolutely beautiful cake.

The most impressive thing about the white cake base is that it wasn’t soggy at all. My cake was a day old when I bought it and my cake base was still pretty dry and light. It doesn’t have a lot of flavor, but it’s an enjoyable white cake.

The star of the cake is obviously the mousse. It’s light, airy and creamy with an excellent mango flavor. You can taste the passion fruit in it too, but the mango stood out more to me. It doesn’t taste artificial and it has the perfect amount of sweetness.

The texture of the cake is very light.

The glaze on top is sweeter. It doesn’t seem to have as much fruit flavor in it, but it’s hard to get a taste without catching any of the mousse on your fork.

Ready to try!

With the way icing is distributed on the cake, most people won’t get any. It’s plain but tasty. I was worried it might be super sweet, but it’s a nice mellow vanilla. It goes well with the rest of the cake, but it’s not really needed.

Cost

The cake costs $22.99 Canadian and in my opinion that’s extremely reasonable. We recently went to a few of our favorite local bakeries and noticed they’d increased the price of cakes and pastries substantially so this cake from Costco seems like a steal of a deal.

The price of this cake is amazing.

Convenience

The cake seems kind of delicate; I noticed it jiggling in my cart, especially as a pushed my cart across the parking lot to my car. By the time I took it out of the plastic container at home, it was slightly warped, but held together. I realized after I popped open the container that it has a plastic band around the edge to hold it together that you peel off before serving.

The tropical flavors make this perfect for a summer dessert!

This is a perfect cake for any summer birthday party or special event. I think everyone who tries it will enjoy it. The cake needs to be kept refrigerated and the best before date is five days from when I purchased it. Although the label on the cake states the cake has been previously frozen, I wouldn’t hesitate to freeze it again if I weren’t going to eat it by the best before date.

Nutrition

Calories

I haven’t been able to track down the nutrition facts for this cake yet but wanted to get thbut based on my experience with Costco cakes I’d say it’s pretty high in calories, sugar and fat and a serving size is probably 1/12th or 1/16th of the cake.

Ingredients

I really appreciate that there’s real mango and passion fruit in the cake but those are about the only positive ingredients listed. There are a lot of ingredients I dislike seeing, for example, corn syrup, vegetable oil, carrageenan, additives/preservatives, palm fat and food coloring.

The cake contains milk egg, almond, soy, wheat, barley and sulfites. It may contain other tree nuts, peanuts, sesame triticale, oat and rye.

Overall

Must buy!

If you like mango and passion fruit like I do, you’ll love this cake. I was worried it would be sweet and artificial tasting, but it’s not. You’ll definitely want to pick one up if you need a dessert for a summer gathering.

  1. The first time I had it it was amazing! Full of flavor and I couldn’t get enough. The second cake I got was a bit bland, the cake part was a bit dry, and I didn’t taste the passionfruit flavor. Hope Costco can be more consistent with this cake.
