Costco’s Christmas fruit cake is almost as good as the one grandma used to make!
Today I’m reviewing the Costco Kirkland Signature Christmas Fruit Cake! This is a staple item at my parent’s house during the holiday season. I don’t know anyone who likes fruit cake as much as my dad does.
Other Christmas foods from Costco are the Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Pie, the Kirkland Signature Red Velvet Cheesecake, the Kirkland Signature Nanaimo Bars and the Kirkland Signature Ginger Cookies.

You can find the Costco Kirkland Signature Christmas Fruit Cake in the bakery section at Costco. It’s not refrigerated. The item number is 13585.
Taste
I don’t love fruit cake but I actually don’t mind the Costco Kirkland Signature Christmas Fruit Cake. It’s very moist and comes loaded with glazed fruit and nuts. You really don’t taste much of the actual cake because every bite is full of either fruit, nuts or both.
Out of all the store-bought fruit cakes my dad has had over the years he claims this one is the best he’s tried. It tastes mildly spiced and is a “medium” fruit cake, meaning it doesn’t have a ton of molasses.
It’s sweet due to the glazed fruits, currants and raisins but not sickeningly sweet. If you’re a fruit cake fan I think you’d probably enjoy the taste of this cake.
Cost
I paid $15.99 for the 1.6 kilogram Costco Kirkland Signature Christmas Fruit Cake. The fruit cake is very dense and heavy! A tiny piece goes a long way.
Convenience
Buying a Christmas fruit cake is easier than making one from scratch. If you’d like to age your fruit cake you can pour your favorite liquor over top, wrap it in cheesecloth and put it in the fridge to marinade.
The cake freezes well and lasts well in the refrigerator as well. It’s also quite easy to slice. The fruit cake had a best before date of about three months from the date I purchased the cake.

Definitely not healthy at all, 1/12th of the cake is 530 calories, 19 grams of fat, 64 grams of sugar, 84 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, six grams of protein, 160 mg of sodium.
Ingredients
If you make your own fruit cake at home from scratch you know exactly what’s going into it. There are some ingredients in the Costco fruit cake that I don’t love like sulfites, palm oil and a bunch of chemical-sounding ingredients.
The Costco Christmas Fruit Cake contains sulfites, wheat, eggs, milk, pecans, walnuts and almonds. It may contain sesame, other tree nuts, soy and peanuts.

They had better be back next year! Why does Canada have them and not the U.S.?

I waited all year to get a Kirkland fruitcake. Very disappointing. It was like a Christmas gift from Costco. Part of the tradition of our Christmas gone. Rethink this decision or tell us where we can get a similar product.
Typical Costco maneuver. They get you use to a product then discontinue it. I find myself shopping more at other stores that I can count on.
No Costco Fruitcake! How upsetting!!!!! We need to start a petition to get it back.

I have tried three times to get one at the Bakersfield Costco on Rosedale Hwy. as of 11/19/2021 they are not in the store and I asked several employees and they are not sure when they will have them. Maybe by Christmas. Sometimes I think the this store is the worst. My daughter shops at a Costco in Oxnard and products we can no longer get here are available there.
Damn…… that’s a bad deal. Costco definitely did serious homework on how to do fruitcake right because certainly no other store even comes close to being as desirable in both appearance and flavor + the cost is very reasonable. 😋
Love Costco fruit cakes. Every year we get at least 3-4 for the two of us. My husband would never eat fruit cake until we brought one home from Costco. He Loves it as much as I do. I called our Altamonte Florida Costco & they said they are not having them this year. WHAT ? What a BUMMER ! Every year we buy them early due to they run out of them fast. One year he had to drive to the Orlando Fl Costco due to Altamonte ran out. Please get them back ! It is the main reason we get yearly membership.

Just bought a Kirkland fruit cake today,nov.10. Same great flavour and ingredients, but very dry. Cannot slice a piece without it falling apart. Rate 9 out of 10 for flavour and ingredients, but 2 out of 10 for texture.
Hopefully others will be better.
I’ve bought a Kirkland fruitcake for the previous 2 years in Canada. I was so disappointed to find out how dry it is! It’s loaded with lots of yummy stuff, but always crumbles when cut. I never thought to soak it in liquor!! Anyhoo, I made my own fruitcakes last month and didn’t realize how expensive the ingredients are! Next year I’ll be soaking the Kirkland fruitcake in liquor!!
Buy some Kirkland Spiced Rum and pour a half cup of it on your fruitcake once a week. Keep it wrapped in cheese cloth or plastic wrap. It will last forever; and, when you eat it, you’ll wonder how you’ve lived without it. Additionally, the alcohol will work wonders for your Christmas attitude. Say a prayer for the diabetics (my wife is one) who can’t enjoy this decadent pleasure. When I saw these fruitcakes at Costco my heart almost stopped. I couldn’t believe it; nor, could the other shoppers who saw a gray-haired, 75 year old, joyfully skipping towards the checkout. I may have to buy 10 of these this year and store them cryogenically just in case Costco ever stops selling them. I can’t get to Costco fast enough. Enjoy!

My family has enjoyed Kirklands Fruitcake since they started selling it. I Have never liked fruitcake….until I found Kirklands. It is moist, full of fruit and nuts and such wonderful flavor. I can’t wait to get my hands on my next one.

My Brother in law LOVES this fruit cake. I was getting him one for Christmas but was just told they have discontinued making it because it didn’t sell well. 😢
My husband Todd also says it’s the best – no, wait… the SECOND best he’s ever tasted. (His Grandma’s fruitcake was the VERY best!) He has the recipe for his grandma’s fruitcake, and I’d love to try making one, but he says it’s too complicated and ingredients are expensive. So when we discovered the Costco fruitcake was very similar to his grandmother’s, we were thrilled we’d be able to buy one every year. But this year, as others have noted here, Costco isn’t selling them, except in Canada folks said. Guess I’ll check the mileage from Colorado to Costco. Actually, I’m gonna try grandma’s recipe. If anyone else want’s to try baking it, I can post the recipe here. It’s handwritten, but pretty legible.

Your dad is a gentleman and a scholar…and there aren’t many of us left. I”m in my 80s and LOVE that fruitcake.
I bought one recently for thanksgiving just sliced it days after my surgery because I was starving unfortunately I didn’t like the taste.
Fruit cakes have been my best since childhood but this isn’t my kind of fruit cake I was greatly disappointed because I refused to fill up in anything just to have a great day with this fruit cake 😞.it’s now seated in refrigerator wondering what to do with it. I regretted why I didn’t choose from their other cakes.
Try pouring a little brandy on it once a week for three or four weeks then try a slice again. Brandy goes well with fruitcake, maybe because brandy is made from grapes?

Today I went to the Albuquerque, NM Costco. No fruitcake. They were not sent the fruit to make the cakes, I was told. They are not available on Amazon either. Clakstons makes a good fruitcake. Amazon has them.
