Kirkland Signature is a brand known for high quality products and so I figured this Kirkland Signature Chocolate Mousse Dessert from Costco will be impressive! The mousse is layered on top of a chocolate cookie base and finished with chocolate ganache and chocolate shavings. Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it? However, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Here’s why this chocolate mousse didn’t taste as great as I had hoped.
Location in Store
These are located in the refrigerated deli section, near the Summ! Apple Pie Rolls with Caramel Sauce and the 44th Street Beef Pot Roast. The item number is 1742998.
Taste
I didn’t love these as much as I hoped/expected to! The consistency of the mousse is more like a firm jello or marshmallow than a fluffy, mousse. For some reason I wasn’t fond of the texture although it was quite smooth. The flavor is chocolaty but they’re pretty sweet.
I notice that the chocolate doesn’t have that rich, deep, high quality chocolate flavor you often see in chocolate mousse or lava cakes. It tastes like a mid-quality chocolate. The ganache on top is my favorite part about these desserts. There’s some chocolate shavings on top which add a bit of texture and crunch that I enjoyed too. Although it says the mousse has a chocolate cookie base, I didn’t taste any cookie at all.
Cost
The 456 gram package contains six individual sized chocolate mousses and costs $13.99 Canadian. That’s just over two dollars per small mousse which isn’t exactly cheap for a store-bought dessert.
Convenience
The mousse desserts need to be kept in the refrigerator and the best before date is just over two weeks from when I bought them. My one complaint about the packaging is that once you take the plastic top off the bottom tray it doesn’t seal back on, it just sits on top. You could tape it together if you wanted.
These work as a fancy-style dessert if you’re having people over or just want to treat yourself or your family. I think kids would probably enjoy them and I shared them with my parents and husband who thought they were tastier than I did. The chocolate mousse is made in Belgium.
Nutrition
Calories
One chocolate mousse contains 260 calories, 15 grams of fat, 34 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 24 grams of sugar, three grams of protein and 40 milligrams of sodium. That’s not that many calories, fat or sugar but these are pretty small desserts!
Ingredients
The ingredients list doesn’t really have anything surprising or shocking considering that they’re a store-bought, packaged dessert. I don’t love seeing glucose-fructose syrup, palm fat, palm oil, canola oil and carrageenan in these.
I also don’t like the additives added such as the polysorbate 80 and disodium diphosphate. The chocolate mousse desserts contain milk, egg, wheat, soy and coconut and may contain almonds, hazelnuts, pistachio nuts, walnuts and macadamia nuts.

Overall
Give it a try!
My husband and parents thought these were pretty tasty but I wasn’t wowed by them. They’re definitely not bad and they’re tasty enough but I would rather have the Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Cake.
