Costco Kirkland Signature Beef Birria Burrito Bowl Review

Burritos are a popular, convenient meal option that offers balanced mix of flavors and ingredients. A burrito bowl contains all the delicious components you’d find in a burrito without the tortilla/wrap. This Costco Kirkland Signature Beef Birria Burrito Bowl pre-made meal includes everything you need for a quick, hearty dish. However, at over thirty dollars it’s not exactly inexpensive. So is it worth your hard-earned money?

Location in Store

This is located in the refrigerated pre-made meal section at Costco, near the chicken pot pie, chicken tacos and chicken penne alfredo. The item number is 33968.

Taste

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this meal! I was a bit worried the quality of the beef wouldn’t be great but it’s pretty good. It’s not a ground beef but more like roast beef roast or chunks of stewing beef. I didn’t find any gross bits of meat in the meal and found the beef to be very tender and flavorful. I like that there seems to be a decent amount of beef in the dish as well.

There is a cilantro flavored rice with black beans, onion, bell pepper cilantro and corn that’s quite flavorful but in my opinion and doesn’t have have a strong cilantro flavor at all. I shared this with my parents who don’t like cilantro and they didn’t notice the cilantro flavor. The rice is the perfect texture and the beans and corn aren’t too soft but aren’t too crispy either.

The toppings that the burrito bowl meal comes with are amazing. There’s sour cream, cheese, guacamole and pico de gallo. The meal has a mild amount of heat that’s easily cooled off by the sour cream. It’s comforting, hearty and filling, I would definitely buy it again.

Cost

The cost is $16.99 per kilogram so it’s dependent on the weight of the particular tray you buy. I paid $30.17 which isn’t cheap but it’s a not a small meal and could easily feed four to six people. It also is quite hearty and filling.

Convenience

This was really easy to heat up in a pan and was on the table in about ten minutes. I love that the meals comes with all the delicious sides you need like limes, sour cream, cheese, guacamole and pico de gallo. The only thing missing it tortillas if you wanted to create a burrito instead of have it in a bowl but you can buy your own.

The beef birria burrito bowl needs to be kept in the refrigerator and has a best before date that’s three days from when I purchased it. I wouldn’t recommend freezing this because I think the rice would be pretty mushy.

Nutrition

Calories

One sixth of the tray contains 550 calories, 29 grams of fat, 43 grams of carbohydrates, five grams of sugar, five grams of fibre, 30 grams of protein and 1150 milligrams of sodium. That’s a ton of sodium but more pre-made meals at Costco do have a lot of sodium.

Ingredients

The ingredients list looks long but when you analyze it there aren’t a lot of unnecessary ingredients like soy protein, additives or chemicals. My biggest complaint is that they use vegetable oil in the rice and beef.

I appreciate that the beef birria burrito bowl meal without the sour cream and cheese is gluten-free and dairy-free so it’s a great option if you have someone in your family with allergies.
