Skip buying these Costco date squares, they’re too sweet, dry and lack flavor!
I’m reviewing Costco bought date squares today! Date squares are something that a lot of people really enjoy so when I saw Costco was carrying these Byblos Bakery Date Squares I decided to pick them up to try and review.
I’ve reviewed a few different squares from the Costco bakery, like the Layla Baklava, Monte Cristo Oat Fudge Bars, Kirkland Signature Variety Dessert Bars and the Kirkland Signature Nanaimo Bars. I like foods that contain dates, one of my favorite items from Costco, the RX bars have dates.
These can be found in the bakery section and the item number is 1522014.
Taste
Skip these date bars from Costco and either make them yourself or buy them from another bakery. These just weren’t good! I provide honest reviews and have to recommend not buying these.
These are way too sweet, they’re dry and crumbly and the worst part is you don’t taste any date flavor! Basically all I taste is sugar. These are not at all tasty and I usually do like date squares so I was disappointed in these.
Cost
Not only do these not taste great, they’re overpriced. They’re $12.99 Canadian for a box of 12.
Convenience
Each date square is individually wrapped in plastic. This makes them really easy to transport, share or freeze! Date squares are great for dessert or a treat with your tea or coffee in the morning (if they taste good).
The best before date is almost three weeks from the date we purchased the date squares which is a little concering…how do they last that long?
Nutrition
Ahhh! The sugar content is terrifying. One square is 290 calories, six grams of fat, 60 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, two grams of protein, 10 mg of sodium and a crazy 49 grams of sugar. That’s more sugar than a slice of Costco Tuxedo Cake or Pumpkin Pie!
The ingredients list is definitely full of ingredients that I don’t know what they actually are/do and also has sugar listed as the second ingredient. These are not gluten free nor vegan.

Walk on by!
If you love homemade date squares these Byblos Date Squares from Costco will not compare. Pick up your date squares from another bakery or make some at home.
