Protein bars offer a quick and convenient way to boost your protein intake. While I find most have a thick, dense, and chewy texture, these Built Puff Protein Bars from Costco are different. They have a unique, marshmallow-like consistency, making them feel more like a candy bar than a traditional protein bar! If you’re looking to try a protein bar with a different texture, these could be the perfect choice. But the real question is, do they taste as good as a candy bar?
Location in Store
These are located in the snack section, near the front of the store and beside all the other protein bars like the Kirkland Signature Protein Bars, Simply Protein Bars and the RX Protein Bars. The item number is 1851141.
Taste
There are two flavors in the box, brownie batter and coconut. I tried both flavors and wrote notes on each kind. I think both flavors are pretty tasty but if you don’t like coconut you may want to skip this box!
The texture of the bars is spongey and chewy just like a marshmallow. They’re fairly light and not heavy like other protein bars but they are chewy so expect a jaw workout!
The coconut flavor is mild, you notice the chocolate flavor more than coconut. The chocolate flavor isn’t that strong either so it doesn’t totally overpower the coconut. The chocolate brownie flavor has the same texture as the coconut but isn’t really flavorful. It’s a very muted, not too sweet chocolate flavor.
Cost
The box comes with 14 protein bars and costs $29.99 Canadian which isn’t cheap but is around the same price point as other protein bars.
Convenience
There is an equal number of each flavor of bar in the box, seven coconut and seven brownie batter. The best before date is about 10 months from when I purchased the bars.
These are great for a breakfast, pre-workout snack or light lunch! They’re individually packaged so you can easily pop them in your gym bag, purse, backpack or glove box!

Calories
Coconut
The coconut bar contains 140 calories, three grams of fat, 13 grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, six grams of sugar, 17 grams of protein and 85 milligrams of sodium.
Brownie Batter
The brownie bar contains 140 calories, two and a half grams of fat, 14 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, six grams of sugar, 17 grams of protein and 90 milligrams of sodium.
Ingredients
I don’t love the ingredients list, the most offending ingredients are the palm kernel oil, cultured dextrose and sugar. There’s nothing “natural” or “clean” about these bars but they do have a decent amount of protein for not that many calories. The bars contain milk and soy and may contain peanuts and tree nuts.

Overall
Give it a try!
These are pretty tasty compared to other protein bars. They’re pretty much like eating a less sweet version of a chocolate bar.
