The flavor and texture of this Costco seaweed salad may not be for everyone!
I’m reviewing Costco Seaweed Salad today! The Azuma Gourmet Seaweed Salad. This is a product that’s been at my Costco for years however I’ve never picked it up to review.
Other salads from Costco are the Costco Summer Fresh Macaroni Salad, Costco Summer Fresh Greek Penne Pasta Salad, Costco Taylor Farms Dill Pickle Salad Kit, Costco Paisley Farms Four Been Salad, Costco Kirkland Signature Caesar Salad Kit and the Costco Kirkland Signature Quinoa Salad.
Location in Store
You can find this in the refrigerated deli section at Costco near the cheese and meat. The item number is 549137.
Taste
I don’t absolutely love this seaweed salad from Costco. The texture is nice and crunchy. I thought the salad would be soggy from the appearance but I’m pleasantly surprised by the crispness! I find the salad a little sweet but enjoy the savory sesame flavor, I also find the salad has a bit of earthy aftertaste I’m not particularly fond of.
My husband enjoys this seaweed salad more than I do so I think there are probably a lot of differing opinions on the taste of seaweed salad! Both of us agree that it gets stuck to your teeth.
Cost
The 794 gram container of seaweed salad costs $12.99 Canadian at Costco.
Convenience
This Costco seaweed salad has a best before date of about a month from the date we purchased it and needs to be kept refrigerated.
There are many ways to use this seaweed salad, as a side dish for any Asian meal, have it with tofu or top a stir-fry bowl with it. An amazing sauce to pair with this is the Costco Kewpie Deep Roasted Sesame Dressing & Marinade.

There are just a few simple ingredients with seaweed being the main ingredient. There is some added sugar to the seasoning which I’m not a huge fan of. The seaweed salad is gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan!

Overall
Give it a try!
If you know you like seaweed you may want to pick this up for a snack or as a side dish! Seaweed itself has a ton of nutrients and vitamins.

Way too sweet!!!! Why why why added sugar!!!!
Yes, agreed, but also it has Tartrazine (yellow colouring) and brilliant blue colouring, both of which have health issues and Tartrazine comes with a warning in the EU. I didn’t read the label before I bought it…seaweed right? I’m afraid it will have to go in the compost.
I think it’s a little slimy. But it satisfies the seaweed salad craving. I agree it does not need all the sugar, I think the flavor would benefit from less. I added more soy sauce and that did not make it taste better. I added some lemon on top and it was much tastier, can’t wait to try with just lemon. I think a little white vinegar would be nice too, or to use as a wash and drain some of the syrupy sugar flavor off with a sieve.
How long can it keep after it’s been open?
I wouldn’t keep it too long. Maybe a week in the fridge at most?
Have had ours in refrigerator since March 2022!! Ate some tonight with a tuna poke bowl & still good & delicious!! No worries eating after expiry date
I read elsewhere that it’s best for one month after the sell-by date.
Did it bought it made a few changes to. It::
Add sweet onions really thin
Add sliced cucumbers really thin
Added white radishes really thin
Went Trader Joe’s and bought some sesame seed in the bottle
1/2 cup white corn
Invited 8 friends over had Japanese sushi and salad they freaked out and all when’s the recipe::
Way too sweet! No sugar is needed! I’ll try washing it off….. but not happy about it. Will not buy again
I completely agree. I love seaweed salad but it’s supposed to be Savory not sweet. I was actually shocked to see that sugar is the second ingredient on the label. I’d like to see Costco’s replace this with a better brand that’s not sweetened.
there is a small prints with wwwp65Warnings.ca.gov on the box. It indicated that the product may contain cancr and reprudutive harm. I found these after we had consumed three containers! Wish I knew earlier
That’s a quirk of the State of California. As you know, everything causes cancer or reproductive harm (like seaweed, sugar, or parking garages). But here in California, they TELL us that everything causes cancer or reproductive harm.
Hi
I like the idea of seaweed salad. Could you make a different version if it please? I would like it to be more simple, no sugar no sesame seeds please.
Thank you
I love this seaweed salad. This is all I use on any salad I’m having.
Whenever it’s available I would buy several containers and freeze them.
This salad is amazing! It might even be better with less salt and sugar.
I like seaweed salad, but not this one. The flavour seemed really artificial to me. I ended up composting it.
I absolutely love this stuff, but not my wife.
I find it a little pricy for the size. But probably fairly healthy.
My husband and I had differing opinions on it too!
Too much salt and sugar. Way to ruin vegetables. Salt is the new sugar!
agree!!
I think you right on that.
Its too sweet for me. When I first open it I was going to do the same. But then I wash it off trying to get rid of this taste and add my own spices. It ended up a bit better but not so much. It feels like a waste if this beautiful seaweed. Why don’t the make no flavor one?
I think food last longer if they are seasoned (preserved in a natural way)…?
