Location in Store

I found the pork roast in the refrigerated section at Costco near the Rana Tagliatelle, Seasoned White Chicken & Mushroom Sauce meal and the Costco Kirkland Signature Chocolate Mousse Desserts. The item number is 1856048.

Taste

The pork roast is really quite tender and flavorful, it falls apart easily with a fork after heating it in the oven. It doesn’t have any strong spices or seasonings, just salt. There’s quite a bit of fat on pork roast that comes off pretty easily but I’m really turned off by fat so I didn’t love all the fat.

I also found the pork roast tasted a bit oily and greasy and looked that way too. The gravy tastes like your simple, standard gravy. I find the gravy pretty salty and there could be less salt in either the pork or gravy.

Cost

There are two 575 gram pork roasts in the box and I paid $16.99 Canadian. That’s about $8.50 per pork roast which seems reasonable but I don’t think one pork roast is going to feed a family of four. It would definitely feed two adults though. The pork roast shrinks quite a bit as it cooks.

Convenience

There are three methods listed to cook the pork roast, in the oven, in the microwave or simmered in the bag it comes in on the stove. The idea of heating plastic in boiling / hot water doesn’t appeal to me so I chose the oven method and it turned out great.

The pork roast needs to be kept refrigerated and the best before date is about two months from when I bought it. If you’re not going to use it by the best before date I recommend freezing it. This pork roast pairs well with potatoes, roasted carrots and a side salad.

Nutrition

Calories

1/4 of the roast contains 180 calories, nine grams of fat, one gram of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, zero grams of sugar, 24 grams of protein and 450 milligrams of sodium. That’s not as much sodium or fat as I thought there would be! I do feel like most adults will eat more than 1/4 of the roast.

Ingredients

The ingredient list contains sugar even though there’s zero grams of sugar in the nutrition facts. I don’t love that there’s canola oil as I wouldn’t use that at home cooking a pork roast. The pork roast is gluten-free and soy-free there’s milk ingredients in the gravy.

Walk on by!

I can’t say I loved this enough to buy it again, the pork roast is small and too fatty for my liking. It is really convenient though for a hearty Sunday dinner.
