Sean’s friend recently had us over for dinner and made us delicious burgers. He served these McCain Sweet Potato Fries from Costco with the burgers. I told Sean I wanted to pick some up because I really enjoyed them so I wanted to share a review with any sweet potato fry fans!

Taste

I’ve tried making homemade sweet potato fries from fresh sweet potato at home before. However, I can never quite get them crispy enough. They usually go from slightly too soft to burnt. These McCain Sweet Potato Fries from Costco are crispy and delicious. They taste so much like sweet potato fries I’ve had at restaurants that I’ve decided I bet there are some restaurants that buy and use these. Sweet potato fries are sweeter and are more flavorful in my opinion than regular white potatoes. The McCain Sweet Potato Fries from Costco are seasoned well, but not overly seasoned, just enough to enhance the flavor. You can pair Sweet Potato Fries with various dips, ketchup, tzatziki or ranch.

Cost

The 1.8 kg bag of McCain Sweet Potato Fries from Costco cost $9.49 Canadian not on sale. That’s a lot of fries for under ten dollars!

Convenience

I bought these for the convenience! As I said, I’ve tried making sweet potato fries and can never get them to taste like they do at a restaurant. All you have to do is pop these in the oven and bake them and you’ve got a side for burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches etc.

Nutrition

15 fries is 160 calories, 7 grams of fat, 210mg of sodium, one gram of protein, eight grams of sugar and two grams of fibre. I probably eat about 30 fries, but I don’t eat these all the time. Would I eat a regular baked sweet potato all the time and not feel bad about it? Yep, but these fries are a little different and I view them as a treat. These aren’t exactly loaded with a ton of fat or calories so I wouldn’t even say they’re an unhealthy choice. The ingredients list definitely indicates these are not as natural as homemade sweet potato fries.

The Costco McCain Sweet Potato Superfries might not be healthier than homemade sweet potato fries, but they’re really tasty and convenient and I’m happy to know I have a big bag in my freezer for barbecue season.

  1. I will have to try these. Hopefully, Costco will have free samples. Except in restaurants, I find them too sweet and as you have mentioned they tend to become either too soggy or burnt if you try to bake them at home. As far as dip goes, the special orange colored special sauce I like to dip them in.
