Chocolate-covered strawberries are a decadent and luxurious dessert that is often served with champagne. Now you can enjoy them anytime conveniently right out of your freezer with the Costco Tru Fru Nature’s Strawberries in White and Milk Chocolate. Are these frozen chocolate-covered strawberries from Costco as good as fresh?
Chocolate-covered strawberries aren’t something I have very often, the last time I had them I believe was when someone sent me an Edible Arrangement so when I saw the Tru Fru frozen chocolate-covered strawberries at Costco I thought they looked like something I’d like to try!
Similar items at Costco are the Tru Fru Dark Chocolate Covered Raspberries, Costco Kirkland Signature Dark Chocolate Covered Mangoes, Costco Kirkland Signature Milk Chocolate Covered Almonds, Costco Kirkland Signature Milk Chocolate Covered Raisins, Costco Lamontagne Chocolate Covered Pistachios and Costco Nature’s Intent Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries.
Location in Store
You can find the Tru Fru in the freezer section at Costco, near the frozen fruit. The item number is 2517285.
Taste
The flavors are pretty much what you expect from a chocolate-covered strawberry. The chocolate is pretty good and tastes like it’s decent quality. The strawberry is first covered in white chocolate and then milk chocolate. It’s nice and sweet and dissolves in your mouth. It’s hard to separate the flavors of white chocolate and milk chocolate, but they go together well.
The strawberries are a bit of a let-down for me. They look beautiful when you bite in – red and perfectly ripe. Unfortunately, they aren’t as flavorful as they look and I find them flavorless. You can kind of taste them, but not as much as the chocolate and they’re not very sweet. Some taste better than others though. The sizes of the strawberries vary which is normal.
The texture of the frozen chocolate-covered strawberries is different than fresh ones, the frozen ones are pretty mushy.
Cost
The 454-gram bag of chocolate-covered strawberries costs $11.99 Canadian at Costco, which isn’t really overpriced but not cheap either. Buying the ingredients to make homemade chocolate-covered strawberries might cost you a few dollars less.
Convenience
These need to be kept in the freezer or in the refrigerator. If you decide to refrigerate them instead of freezing the bag states that they must be consumed within 48 hours. If you freeze them, it’s easy to take out of a few every time you have a craving for something sweet. The package recommends letting them thaw for 15 minutes before eating them.
The best before date is almost two years from the date we purchased them if they’re kept frozen. I think these would be great to serve at a bridal or baby shower or to have during a fancy night at home with some champagne! They’re also fun to just snack on. The bag is resealable which helps keep the strawberries fresh and makes it easy to store them.
Nutrition
Calories
Four chocolate-covered strawberries is 120 calories, seven grams of fat, 13 grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, 12 grams of sugar and one gram of protein. That’s actually not too many calories and sugar for four of these! I feel like four is enough to satisfy my sweet tooth.
Ingredients
The ingredients list is very simple and has milk chocolate, white chocolate and strawberries. They contain milk and soy and may contain peanuts but are gluten-free. The strawberries are healthy and have vitamin C as well as antioxidants but the chocolate is not healthy.

These used to be great. But now the company has gone through a major “shrinkflation.” I hate it when a company thinks they can use less of a product, be it toilet paper, tissue, or corn flakes and think the consumer won’t notice. Adding insult to injury, the now “dime sized” chocolate strawberries are even more expensive. I pass.
100% I second this! I’ll never buy them again.
I’m addicted! Bought 2 pkg. $9.99 (Cdn.) on sale. 😋
My Costco doesn’t carry them anymore San Francisco Bay Area. How can I send for them.
I have not found them in Rochester, NY all summer. When will they appear?
I hope Costco has brought back the trufru frozen raspberries. I think they had white and dark chocolate. They were fabulous
