Costco Universal Bakery Coconut Bites Review

There are a lot of delicious baked goods out there that use coconut and raspberry as ingredients, but I haven’t seen them combined into the same treat very often! These Universal Bakery Coconut Bites from Costco do just that. Is this combination as good as it sounds?

Today I’m reviewing the Costco Universal Bakery Coconut Bites. When I saw that they have a raspberry filling I immediately wanted to try them!

Other similar products from Costco are the Universal Bakery Paleo Bites, Universal Bakery Keto Bites, Universal Bakery Aussie Bites and the E&C’s Heavenly Hunks.

Location in Store

You can find the coconut bites in the bakery section at Costco. The item number is 16445596.

Taste

The coconut bite dough is somewhat moist, very dense and a bit crumbly. Kind of similar to a scone or shortbread cookie. I don’t notice a strong coconut flavor but there’s lots of coconut texture from the coconut flakes in the bite.

I like that there’s a generous amount of raspberry filling. The filling is fairly firm, like a jelly, quite sweet and a little artificial tasting but good. The raspberry flavor is more artificial than natural tasting.

The flavors go together well but I mainly notice the raspberry flavor because the dough doesn’t have a strong coconut flavor. There are a few seeds in the filling that give a bit of extra texture!

Cost

The 737 gram container of coconut bites costs $11.49 Canadian. The price isn’t completely unreasonable for a large tub of cookies but it’s also not super cheap either.

You get quite a few bites in the plastic resealable container!

Convenience

The plastic tub is resealable which helps keep the coconut bites fresh. The best before date listed on the container is about five weeks from the date they were purchased. However, the packaging states that once opened the coconut bites should be consumed within seven days.

The bites should be consumed within seven days of opening the container.

Once opened to keep them fresh tasting they can be refrigerated. I think these would be convenient for a kids lunch or just to have around the house for a snack.

Nutrition

Calories

One coconut bite is 130 calories, six grams of fat, 16 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fibre, 11 grams of sugar, one gram of protein and 50 mg of sodium. The bites are pretty small so I think the amount of calories, fat and sugar is a bit much for one bite.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is pretty typical for a store bought cookie! Coconut and raspberry filling are the first two ingredients which is nice to see. The coconut bites contain wheat, milk and eggs as well as may contain soy, peanuts and tree nuts.

Walk on by!

I think these are a little bit bland and disappointing.
