Sauerkraut is not only delicious (at least to some people!) – it’s also amazing for gut health. It’s loaded with probiotics and it’s really nutritious. Today, I’m going to tell you all there is to know about the Costco Wildbrine Raw Organic Sauerkraut!
The Costco Wildbrine Raw Organic Sauerkraut has been at my local warehouse for quite a while. I actually reviewed it a while ago and decided it was time for an update now (spring 2022). Other foods loaded with probiotics from Costco include the Costco GTS Raw & Organic Gingerade Kombucha, Costco Greenhouse Organic Probiotic Lemonade and the Costco Kirkland Signature Organic Greek Yogurt.
Location in Store
You can find this sauerkraut in the refrigerated deli section at Costco, near the fresh pasta and cheese. The item number is 1098785.
Taste
This is flavorful! I’m not sure if it’s in a good way though, as it’s pretty strong tasting! If you don’t know what sauerkraut is, it’s fermented, salty green cabbage. The sauerkraut is very tart, salty and also has a pretty noticeable garlic flavor.
The texture is slightly crunchy and not soggy or gooey. A small portion is enough for me because it’s so flavorful!
Cost
For the one-and-a-half-liter container of sauerkraut, the price is $11.49. That’s amazing because I’ve seen this at some specialty grocery stores for much more.
Convenience
The Wildbrine Sauerkraut needs to be kept in the refrigerator and the best before date is about seven months from the date when it was purchased. The container is a bit large, so by the time you’re at the bottom of your sauerkraut, you’ll need an extra-long spoon.
Sauerkraut can be used in a variety of ways. It’s well-known as a hot dog condiment or a sausage side, but you can also have it with chicken, burgers, sandwiches, etc. – basically however you like. I know a lot of adults like sauerkraut, but I’m not so sure about kids!
Nutrition
Calories
Two tablespoons contains five calories, zero grams of fat, 260 milligrams of sodium, one gram of sugar, one gram of fibre, two grams of carbohydrates and 0.4 grams of protein. This is really, really low in calories, fat, carbs and sugar! You can enjoy a lot of sauerkraut without feeling much guilt, unless you’re watching your sodium intake.
Ingredients
The ingredients list is super short and sweet: cabbage, sea salt and garlic! This is gluten-free as well as vegan. I absolutely love and appreciate that it comes in a BPA-free package!
Scoring
Taste: I don’t like sauerkraut, so I can’t give it a fair rating. My dad who loves it gives this specific brand from Costco a 9/10.
Cost: 7/10
Convenience: 10/10
Nutrition: 10/10
Overall
Give it a try!
Personally, I’m not a fan of sauerkraut. I feel like people who enjoy it would love the Wildbrine Sauerkraut from Costco though!

Finally found this product at my Costco in St.Louis, was wondering how long it will keep in the refrigerator after opening !!! I actually use sauerkraut as a salad topper along with EVOO instead of fattening dressing !!! Yum !!!

I’ve been buying this for a couple of years now, and try and have about a 1/4 of a cup each morning, knowing the health benefits. I find it doesn’t have that sour taste like most others do and when empty I use the big plastic jars for storing small stuff in.
I love it. It’s so fresh compared to Vlasic or other jarred sauerkrauts.
Looking for this item at Costco, Roseville, Michigan. Please tell me when and if it will be back. I am really missing it. Thank you.
Usually it’s in store during the spring and summer months.
It seems too often that Costco gets a good product enjoyed by many and then they stop selling it for a time! Wildbrine Sauerkraut, in-store Chilli, Kubs rye bread, Orange Cranberry muffins to name a few. It’s quite frustrating really. Like a good restaurant, people like consistency and reliability. Makes me question my justification for continued membership.
I’ve been looking for this for a while after finally getting to try it. I finally asked at customer service and was told it’s no longer being carried. Very annoying.
It is June in Leesburg and I discovered Wildbrine sauerkraut
I was recovering from bad infection I was looking for something probiotic to help my gut recover from all the antibiotics.
The Wildbrine organic sauerkraut has more probiotics than OTC. Products
& I can’t do Kerfer or like fermented foods
Wildbrine is a greatl probiotic and I’m even getting to like the taste
We totally agree!!!!!! Living 45 minutes away from Costco, we can’t just drop-in every few days. Two days ago, the Costco in West Des Moines. IA WAS OUT. Said it’s a seasonal item! WHAT??? We eat it daily for immunity.
AND, we love it!!!! We are thinking of canceling membership too. Like you stated, find good products, then gone.
When will the Wildbrine be back in stock in the Costco stores in Vancouver, WA?
I always see it in the spring/summer but I’d ask your local Costco.
The best sauerkraut I’ve had. I must watch my salt intake so it’s imperative that I rinse the sauerkraut before I eat it. However, this does not lessen my enjoyment of the product. Rinsing, from what I’ve read, does take away some of the probiotic benefit.
I love this as it is not too sour. I even eat it as a snack, although I also have put it on top of hot dogs.
When I near the end of one jar, I am at Costco to get another.
I highly recommend it and give it a 10 out of 10.
Can you please tell me when Wildbrine Raw Organic Sauerkraut will be restocked in Red Deer Alberta’s Costco
Wondering why it’s been out of stock for so long in Winnipeg? It’s definitely one of the best I’ve tasted in years! Please re-stock soon!
I tried it and like it, even I rarely eat sauerkraut before. My other motivation, as I recently learned about Vitamin K2 associated with fermented food, it can help in cardiovascular health:

As they say, eating healthy is your best medications 🙂
My overall favorite for about everything I can use it in including adding to salad. Great price too
why is it not in stock at my local Ancaster Ontario locationÉ
This ‘OLD-TIMER’ MO farm boy just tried this sauerkraut & it is near flawless just like my grandma made (1940’s-1960’s). Over the years I have tried countless other krauts & this is the best yet (98% near perfect). It has a mandatory crunchy, salty taste almost as if it was made on the farm in a crock & then packed & stored in Mason jars.
SEMPER FIDELIS
What a surprise! I happen to enjoy sauerkraut but this one takes it to the next level. I just pick up my first from Costco and can’t say enough. It’s PERFECT! Fresh, crunchy, flavorful and affordable. I hope Costco stocks it for a while for easy pick up. I’m actually using it for a side dish. Many more options than regular sauerkraut as it’s just the right flavor and not so over powering.
Impossible to open. I was excited to try this brand but I am a small woman who lives alone and was unable to even open the giant lid, it’s so big my hand could barely grab it. I gave up and unfortunately had to toss the unopened jar in the trash.
There are many wars to open difficult to open jar lids. Look online for suggestions!
But you didn’t say if pasteurized or unpasteurized that’s immensely important otherwise it’s useless as a prebiotic?
Not pasteurized!
I love eating saurkraut, and have tried probably 6 brands. This is the best tasting of all i have tried
I eat a couple ounces of sauerkraut everyday. Here in Los Angeles the regular price is $7.99 and it’s $2 off until the 28th of August. You can’t go wrong for $5.99 for such a healthy food!

Available in Long Beach area Costcos, I think it $8 something (don’t quote me), going to check it out the next time I go. I like it cold right out of the fridge, anyone know how long it last after you open it?
