Costco plant-based and gluten-free product review, riced chickpeas & lentils!
Today I’m reviewing the Costco Pedon More Than Rice Riced Chickpeas & Lentils. I absolutely love the Pedon More Than Pasta Yellow Lentil Spaghetti so when I found this item I was really excited! I love that it’s gluten-free and is made of high protein and nutritious chickpeas and lentils.
If this product peaks your interest you might want to look at my review for the Paisley Farm Four Bean Salad from Costco, the Costco Summer Fresh Seven Grain Salad, Costco Norquin Frozen Quinoa & Kale, the Costco Dujardin Organic Cauliflower Rice or the Costco Kirkland Signature Quinoa Salad.
This product can be found in the aisle with the quinoa and rice and the item number is 2373324.
Taste
I can’t say this tastes like rice to me, neither does cauliflower rice though! It resembles an orzo pasta in my opinion with a strong chickpea flavor. I really like the texture and have no problems at all with the flavors from the chickpeas and lentils or the texture.
What I don’t love is the seasoning packet that comes with the riced chickpeas & lentils. I found it too sweet and overpowering and it has a slight bit of curry flavor to me (like a sweet curry) that I found too strong, I’d rather the natural flavors of the chickpeas and lentils be able to shine through.
Cost
I paid $10.79 Canadian for the 900 gram box of riced chickpeas and lentils which isn’t unreasonable! It’s very filling and expands as you cook it.
Convenience
In the box you get one bag of riced chickpeas & lentils and three seasoning packets. This product isn’t as convenient as a microwaveable side and needs to be done on the stovetop. It’s not hard to make though and turned out really well when I followed the directions on the box.
The best before date listed is eight months from the date I purchased this. I would use the riced chickpeas & lentils as a side with chicken, fish, ground turkey meatballs or porkchops. I also might use it as a main dish by adding a ton of extra vegetables to it.
Nutrition
1/4 cup is 180 calories prepared, 28 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, two grams of sugar, nine grams of protein, one and a half grams of fat and 320 mg of sodium. Not at all low calorie but it does have a decent amount of protein and isn’t extremely high in carbohydrates.
This is gluten-free but “may contain” eggs, fish, crustaceans, milk and soy but the box states it’s vegan. This is also a good source of iron and fibre.

Overall
Give it a try!
If you’re looking for a plant-based, gluten-free side to introduce into your regular weekly meals I recommend trying this. Instead of using the seasoning packet, next time I’m going to cook mine in bone or chicken brother.
Have you tried this? What did you think?

We absolutely love this rice, but cannot find it any more. Does Costco still sell it and if so where? We live in Sherwood Park, AB.
Thank you
Last time I was at Costco they no longer have it.
