Costco bought pickles with a strong vinegar flavor and not much crunch!
Today I’m going to be reviewing pickles I purchased from Costco for a recent barbecue I was hosting. The Matt & Steve’s Extreme Pickle Spears.
Another strong vinegar flavored jarred product I’ve reviewed from Costco is the Paisley Farms Four Bean Salad from Costco. A few condiment type items I’ve reviewed from Costco are the Kirkland Signature Organic Salsa, Kinder’s Buttery Steakhouse Seasoning, Costco Nuts for Nature Nut & Seed Butter and the Costco Chosen Foods Avocado Mayonnaise.
You can find the pickles in the condiment section near the ketchup and other jarred vegetables, the item number is 1408267.
Taste
I can’t say I’m totally amazed by these pickles. They have a very strong vinegar flavor that’s borderline too strong, they’re salty and also have a garlic flavor. The strength of the vinegar almost makes them taste a bit spicy.
I wish I could say these were super crisp, like as crisp as a carrot but they are not. They’re a little soft for my pickle preference, the outside of the pickle is slightly crisp and chewy however the inside is not that crisp which is disappointing.
Cost
I paid $7.99 Canadian for two 1 liter jars of pickles on sale, the regular price of the pickles is $9.99 Canadian which is still reasonable.
Convenience
These are best served chilled. The best before date on the pickles is almost two years from the date I purchased the pickles.
The pickle spears make awesome sandwich toppers but they’re a bit oddly shaped for inside a burger or a sandwich, they’re shaped like a pickle that you would have on the side or they would work in a wrap.
Nutrition
I don’t know why they would give the nutrition information for half of a spear. Who eats half of a spear? Anyways…one half of a spear is four calories, zero grams fat, fibre, or sugar, less than a gram of protein, one gram of carbohydrates and 180 mg of sodium.
The ingredients list is short and sweet with all natural ingredients that would expect to see in pickles and no added sugar!
Scoring
Taste: 7/10
Cost: 8/10
Convenience: 10/10
Nutrition: 7/10 (high in sodium)
Overall
Give it a try!
I think a true pickle connoisseur wouldn’t be totally in love with these but if you’re just your average pickle enjoyer you’ll probably enjoy them!
Have you tried these? What did you think?

I tried one. Will not buy again. They might as well be unripened baby cucumbers in salty, garlic vinegar water… I guess I’m just into classic Bicks baby dills, sorry guys maybe this is a demo item. Then you can decide for yourself!
Is Costco still planning to sell the Matt and Steve’s Pickle Spears? I was in South London Costco today and none were in stock.
we bought these today and we were disappointed. The taste was ok but a very mushy pickle. I would not recommend buying these.
