NEWSFLASH! Costco has released Kirkland Signature-brand chocolate peanut butter cups! I knew when I saw these that we would be bringing them home. Chocolate and peanut butter is probably Sean’s favorite. I like it, but not as much as he does. We have a lot of chocolate peanut butter going on in our house – ice cream, cookies, chocolates, protein bars and protein powder. I guess that makes me qualified to tell you whether or not these cups are a worthy version of the classic combination.
Taste
So you’re probably thinking, “Natalie, how are these any different than the leading brand of peanut butter cups?” Can I say Reese’s? I guess I just did. Anyway, Kirkland’s version is definitely creamier, less artificial tasting and possibly a tad less sweet, with higher-quality-tasting chocolate. They’re also bigger with a higher peanut butter to chocolate ratio. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually find the peanut butter in Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups kind of pasty and dry. The peanut butter in the Kirkland Signature Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups is a thinner, moist and smooth one – very similar to good real peanut butter. In short, these peanut butter cups taste like what you would get if you scooped some of your favorite peanut butter into a good-quality milk chocolate shell.
Cost
At $11.99 Canadian per container, these peanut butter cups aren’t exactly cheap, but they’re not overly expensive either. Given the size of the container (1.13 kilograms), they’re probably not too far from Reese’s on a price/weight basis. They’re certainly cheaper than a similar product would cost from most specialty chocolate shops, but the quality is much closer to what you would get from that specialty chocolate shop than Reese’s.
Convenience
The Kirkland Signature Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups look very visually appealing in their red foil and plastic container with a red lid. Definitely very festive! They’re conveniently sealed in that big plastic container, which helps keep them tasting fresh and prevents them from getting beat up or squished. I also like how they’re individually wrapped, because you can scatter a few on your holiday cookie plate to make it look a little more festive. You could even add some to gift or cookie baskets. As a nurse, I love individually wrapped chocolates – I’m not a fan of unwashed hands dipping into a container of unwrapped chocolates!
Nutrition
Nutritionally… Let’s just not even go there! These are a treat, and a very scrumptious treat at that. They’re best consumed in moderation, but they’re definitely worth the price of the calories, sugar and fat.
These are for you chocolate peanut butter lovers! Go pick some up and dive right into the chocolate and peanut buttery goodness. T’is the season!

When will you bring back the Kirkland’s peanut butter cups
Right?! These are sooo good!
I was thrilled when I tasted the Costco Peanut Butter Cups and dismayed when they disappeared from the shelves. I keep looking for these delightful morsels but have yet to find them. The Kirkland brand quality is higher all around: creamier, simply better tasting chocolate, and the extra pinch of salt that turns a great tasting peanut butter cup into an exquisite tasting morsel that I, for one, dream about. Please bring them back?
