Manchego cheese is renowned for its rich, nutty, and complex flavor profile, with tangy and sweet notes. Unlike your typical cheddar or mozzarella, it offers a more sophisticated taste. If you’re looking to elevate your charcuterie board, the Don Alonso Manchego Queso from Costco could be the perfect choice.
Location in Store
This is located in the deli section at Costco, near the cold cuts like the Kirkland Signature Oven Roasted Turkey Breast and the other cheeses like the Kirkland Signature Goat Cheese. The item number is 1734018.
Taste
I don’t absolutely love this Manchego but I don’t hate it either. If you’re someone who doesn’t like cheese with a bit of a sharp, aged flavor you may want to skip this. It’s a bit tangy, sweet and definitely has that nutty aged flavor.
I wouldn’t say it’s extremely strong or pungent but it’s nowhere close in flavor to a mild mozzarella or cheddar. The texture of the cheese is pretty firm but still easy to cut. Manchego can be enjoyed with simple crackers or some crusty bread, serrano ham and a drizzle of olive oil!
Cost
This Manchego isn’t cheap but nothing is anymore! The 500 gram block of cheese costs $17.99 Canadian. I think you’re probably paying more since it’s a product from Spain and of course there’s rising food costs!
Convenience
The cheese needs to be kept refrigerated and has a best before date that’s seven months from when I purchased it. Once you open the cheese the plastic packaging doesn’t reseal so I recommend storing it in a Ziplock or airtight glass container.
There are a lot of ways to use Manchego! Some ideas are on a charcuterie board, to make a fancy grilled cheese, paired with crackers, in a sandwich or to make crostini. The flavor might be a little intense for kids but you never know, they may like it!
Nutrition
Calories
A 30-gram serving or three-centimeter cube of Manchego contains 130 calories, 11 grams of fat, zero grams of carbohydrates, fiber and sugar, eight grams of protein and 160 milligrams of sodium. The sodium isn’t very high and neither are the calories! I also appreciate that there are eight grams of protein in one serving.
Ingredients
If you didn’t already know manchego cheese is from the Manchega sheep’s milk. The ingredients list is pretty simple. I’ll point out that the cheese contains milk and egg as well as the rind you see on it isn’t edible, so make sure to cut it off!

Overall
Give it a try!
This isn’t my favorite manchego cheese, I prefer the Kirkland Signature Manchego Cheese over this one. It’s still fine though!
