These soft pretzel bites from Bistro 28 at Costco make the ideal snack, appetizer, or party treat. Ready in just five minutes, they come with two delicious dipping sauces. Could these bite-sized pretzels be my new go-to Costco find?
Location in Store
I found these pretzel bitesin the refrigerated deli section at Costco near the Fontaine Sante Hummus and the Kirkland Signature Goat Cheese. The item number is 1865526.
Taste
I really like these pretzel bites! Soft pretzels are really simple and a bit bland but Bistro 28 does them well! The texture of the pretzel bites is fluffy and light, they’re soft on the inside and a bit crispy on the outside.
If you don’t use the salt in the package that comes in the box they’re not very salty which is fine because the dips themselves have a lot of salt. If you like your pretzels extra salty, by all means, use the salt packet.
The mustard dip is like a honey mustard and not spicy. The cheese dip is really good it’s definitely cheesy but doesn’t taste like very processed cheese. The cheese dip isn’t super strong, pungent cheese, just a nice subtle cheese flavor.
Cost
The 1.03 kilogram box costs $18.99 Canadian and comes with two plastic bags each containing 25 pretzel bites, one mustard dip and two cheese dips. That’s not cheap at all for pretzel bites so I think you’re definitely paying for the convenience!
Convenience
There are a few ways to heat the pretzels. In the microwave, oven or air fryer. I heated my pretzel bites in the oven and thought they turned out perfect and didn’t regret not using my air fryer at all.
The cheese dip is really easy to heat up but I noticed that once it heats up the volume decreases so it looks like there’s a lot less cheese dip than before it was heated. These are amazing as an appetizer, snack, party or potluck! They’re ready to eat in just minutes and kids would really enjoy them.
The best before date is about three weeks from when I purchased them and they need to be kept refrigerated. I froze one bag of my pretzel bites and thawed them and found they tasted the exact same so I think they can be frozen.
Nutrition
Calories
1/10th of the package or a 107 gram serving contains 310 calories, 13 grams of fat, 39 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fibre, two grams of sugar, nine grams of protein and a crazy 1250 milligrams of sodium. That’s so much sodium but you can reduce the sodium by not using the additional salt and not eating a ton of dip.
Ingredients
The ingredients list has everything you’d expect in store-bought pretzel bites with a cheese dip. I don’t love seeing soybean oil, that it’s a “processed cheese product”. I also don’t love the corn oil, I also find it interesting that there’s anchovies in the cheese dip! The pretzels contain anchovy, barley, egg, milk, mustard and wheat.
