Costco Kirkland Signature Pinsa Review

I’m a huge fan of pizza and seize every opportunity to indulge, but I’d never tried Pinsa until now! If you’re curious about how Pinsa compares to traditional pizza, it’s lighter, airier, and made with a blend of different flours instead of just wheat. Plus, it’s typically served in a rectangular shape. My first taste of Pinsa was with the Kirkland Signature Margherita Pinsa from Costco. Keep reading to find out what I thought.

Location in Store

There are three different varieties of Pinsa available at Costco and they’re all located in the pre-made meal section. I found them beside the wings and the stuffed salmon. The item number is 34379.

Taste

The first thing I noticed was how amazing my house smelled while baking the pizza! My toddler even said “mmmm” when she came up from playing in the basement it smelled so good.

There’s quite a bit of a cheese on the Pinsa, especially in the center of it. The tomato sauce is really flavorful and tastes extremely fresh with real chunks of tomatoes. I loved the outer edges of the crust but found the center of the crust a bit soft.

I cooked the pizza longer than the directions stated so I think the crust was soft from all the cheese and toppings that are heaviest in the middle. The edge of the crust was flavorful and crispy.

There’s quite a bit of pesto on the margherita pizza which gives it a nice herby, high-end pizza flavor.

There’s no shortage of cheese, pesto or tomato sauce on this pizza. All four of us enjoyed it and found it extremely flavorful. My toddler however didn’t love it, I think the pesto turned her off of it.

Cost

The margherita Pinsa from Costco costs $18.99 Canadian which really doesn’t seem too bad to me considering what you get. The pizza is pretty large and is also really filling!

Convenience

This makes a really easy, convenient lunch or dinner. I followed the cooking instructions but ended up baking my pizza for about two minutes longer than the directions called for because I like a really crispy crust.

We cut the pizza into six large slices but you could easily cut it into nine smaller slices. I served it with a side garden salad which complemented the Pinsa perfectly. The best before date is three days from when it was packaged and it needs to be kept refrigerated.

Nutrition

Calories

One fifth of the Pinsa contains 400 calories, 17 grams of fat, 45 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, three grams of sugar, 18 grams of protein and 690 milligrams of sodium. That’s less calories, fat and sodium than I thought there would be but keep in mind, I think a lot of adults will eat more than 1/5th of the pizza.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is really simple with pizza crust, sauce, pesto and cheese being the only ingredients. I don’t love that the crust has soy flour in it and the pesto is made of vegetable oil. The Pinsa contains milk, pine nuts, soy, wheat and barley. It may contain egg, fish, molluscs, crustaceans, tree nuts, mustard, peanut and sesame.

Overall

Give it a try!

This Pinsa is tasty! It’s a bit cheaper than takeout pizza but not cheaper than frozen pizza. I enjoyed it enough to buy it again.

  1. You mention that there’s 3 different varieties but you don’t say what they are? I’ve never heard of pinsa so will have to check it out. Thanks.

  2. I really appreciate your reviews. I’m disabled, have food allergies, and I must get groceries delivered. The grocery apps don’t often show the ingredients list, so this information is critical for me, especially with the Kirkland prepared products.

Your blog has been an incredible resource for me.

Thank you so much for your dedication to reviewing Costco products!
