Costco Galerie Au Chocolat Dark Chocolate Truffles Review

If you’re looking for small, festive boxes of chocolates to gift this Christmas, these Galerie Au Chocolat Dark Chocolate Truffles from Costco are an option. The package includes nine small boxes, each filled with nine individually wrapped chocolate truffles. The only downside is the lack of variety, so make sure the recipient is a fan of dark chocolate!

Location in Store

These dark chocolate truffles can be found in the Christmas / seasonal aisle, near the Anthon Berg Liquor Filled Chocolates and the Gudrun Fine Belgian Chocolates. The item number is 1838654.

Taste

I’ll start off by saying you have to like dark chocolate to really enjoy these. Every chocolate in the box is the same, a plain dark chocolate truffle. The outside of the truffle is pretty solid/hard but not rock hard and the center is much softer. If you let the chocolate linger in your mouth it melts pretty quickly and the chocolate is really smooth.

This isn’t a very bitter dark chocolate, it still has some sweetness to it, which I appreciate. The quality of the chocolate seems pretty decent, and the truffles are rich and decadent. The only negative I can think of is that you may get tired of them due to them being all the same and pretty plain.

Cost

You get nine 100-gram boxes in the pack for $29.99 Canadian which is perfect if you’re looking to hand out small boxes of chocolates to friends, colleagues or family. There are about nine truffles in each box.

Convenience

Each individual box is sealed and contains individually wrapped truffles. The best before date is about seven months from when we purchased them. If you know a lot of people who enjoy dark chocolate this is a great gift idea.

However, if I’m going to give out chocolates I prefer a variety like the Galerie Au Chocolate Assorted Chocolates. I don’t think kids would like these much unless you know they like dark chocolate, most kids I know tend to like milk or white chocolate.

Nutrition

Calories

Three truffles contain 190 calories, 15 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fibre, 13 grams of sugar, two grams of protein and one milligram of sodium. I’m not surprised that three truffles contain a decent amount of calories and fat and I also want to point out that each truffle has just over four grams of sugar, which isn’t a ton.

Ingredients

The ingredients list isn’t terribly long which is a good thing. The truffles contain soy and milk and may contain peanuts, tree nuts and sulphites. They are gluten-free if you’re celiac or not eating gluten.

Overall

Give it a try!

If you know you like dark chocolate, you’ll probably enjoy these truffles and they’d make a nice gift for anyone who does like dark chocolate. If you don’t like dark chocolate, I’d skip these.
