Costco Good Foods Bacon Date Goat Cheese Dip Review

The combination of bacon, dates and goat cheese may sound unappealing to some but it’s a delicious mix of savory, salty, sweet and tangy. When I saw this Good Foods Bacon Dote Goat Cheese Dip at Costco I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to pair it with but I knew I wanted to try it. After trying this dip I think it’s got the perfect harmonious balance of flavors.

Location in Store

This dip is located in the refrigerated deli section at Costco, near the hummus, red pepper jelly and salsa. The item number is 1850929.

Taste

This dip is really unique and very flavorful. It’s got a noticeably strong, smoky, bacon flavor that I love because I’m a big bacon fan. There’s also a pleasant sweetness in each bite coming from the date paste.

The combination of bacon and date works well together. it’s a smoky, sweet, salty flavor. The sweetness of the dates is mellowed by the tangy, creamy flavor of the goat cheese. Overall the flavors work really well together to produce a darn tasty dip.

The texture of the dip is quite thick but spreadable and there are small chunks of date, onions, and bacon throughout. I tried this with crackers but I think there’s a ton of different foods you can enjoy with this dip and it could also be used in recipes.

Cost

This is a big container of dip! The 680 gram container costs $13.99 Canadian at Costco which seems quite reasonable to me.

Convenience

The dip needs to be kept refrigerated and has a best before date that’s about three weeks from when I purchased it. You could probably freeze the dip if you weren’t going to use it up but the texture might become watery.

This dip can be used on crackers. tortilla chips, crostini, raw vegetables, with pita bread and as a spread on sandwiches!

Calories

Two tablespoons of dip contains 60 calories, three and a half grams of fat, four grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, three grams of sugar, three grams of protein and 200 milligrams of sodium. I was actually expecting there to be more calories and fat based on how flavorful this is.

Ingredients

The ingredients list has simple, whole foods you’d expect to see in a bacon, date & goat cheese dip. There is real bacon so if you’re unable to eat pork you’ll have to skip this dip. The dip is gluten-free and soy-free but does contain dairy and animal products.

Overall

Give it a try!

I liked this dip a lot, my husband isn’t a fan of creamy dips/sauces so he didn’t enjoy this as much. I think if you like goat cheese, bacon and a bit of a sweeter dip, you’ll like this.
