Costco Comtes de Provence Salted Butter Caramel Review

Who couldn’t like salted caramel? It’s rich and buttery with the perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors. I wasn’t expecting to see this caramel at Costco so when I found the Comtes de Provence Salted Butter Caramel I immediately picked up a jar. I bought it before deciding what I was going to use it on but knew this sweet and creamy sauce would make an awesome addition to a variety of foods.

Location in Store

I found this hiding in the aisle with the jam, nut butters and syrup! The item number is 1815730.

Taste

This product reminds me of the Pisti Almond Cream and Pistachio Cream in that when you buy it you have to figure out what to use it on. The caramel is basically semi-liquid candy. It’s quite sweet, but that sweetness is balanced perfectly with the salt and butter flavors. It’s rich and smooth.

The caramel is very good by itself, but a little goes a long way. Most people will probably use it as part of some other dish. The obvious thing for me was to put it on vanilla ice cream, and it tasted great that way. I could also see using it in baked goods. The caramel can be a bit hard to spread or drizzle, especially after refrigerating it. I tried heating it up in the microwave and that worked great. It also tastes really good when it’s warm.

My biggest problem with this caramel is that it might not be the easiest thing to find a use for. It tastes amazing. I could see some people eating it straight – it’s that good. If you don’t do that or serve it on ice cream, I’m not entirely sure what you’re going to with it.

Cost

The 660 milliliter jar costs $9.99 Canadian which seems pretty standard to me for a jar this size of salted caramel.

Convenience

We both love salted caramel but had to think about what we were going to serve this with. We decided on ice cream but some other ideas are serving it with apples, cookies, pretzels, on popcorn, drizzled on brownies or even mixed with yogurt.

The salted caramel needs to be refrigerated after opening it and the best before date looks like it’s about three and a half years from when I opened it.
