Costco Kirkland Signature Almond Blossoms Review

These new Kirkland Signature Almond Blossoms from Costco are like a cross between a danish and a croissant in the shape of a large muffin! The blossoms combine laminated pastry with a sweet frosting and slivered almonds to create a simple yet delectable treat. To some people, these may look a bit bland but looks can be deceiving!

Costco carries lots of delicious items in their bakery section perfect for the fall season like the Kirkland Signature Homestyle Apple Pie, Kirkland Signature Premium Apple Cake, Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Pie, Kirkland Signature Almond Danishes, Kirkland Signature Shortbread Cookies and the famous Kirkland Signature Christmas Fruit Cake.

These almond blossoms are located in the unrefrigerated bakery section at Costco and the item number is 1800066.

Taste

I was a little bit worried about trying these almond blossoms two days after they were packaged but they were still very good. The pastry is light, fairly flaky, but not particularly flavorful and a little on the dry side, this could be because I ate them two days after they were packaged.

The center is nice and moist as this is where most of the almond flavor is. The pastry shell is just a plain pastry that is mildly buttery in flavor and is really similar to a croissant. When you cut the almond blossoms in half you can see the filling in the center and this is where all the almond flavor comes from. The filling is very moist and moistens the pastry around it and it also has a strong, pleasant almond flavor.

I’m personally a huge fan of almond desserts so I found it pretty enjoyable. There are also some almonds flakes sprinkled on top and they add some nice texture and flavor. One thing I noticed is that the bottom layers in the middle got gelled together almost, probably from sitting under the almond flavor for two days.

Cost

There are six large blossoms in the container and I paid $14.99 Canadian, which isn’t exactly cheap, but nothing seems cheap anymore! I bet a few years ago the same container of almond blossoms would cost $9.99 Canadian.

Convenience

The blossoms have a best before date that’s only two days from when they were packaged. I did notice that after leaving them on the counter for a day they started to get a bit soggy. If you’re not going to eat them right away I recommend freezing them.

These are great for breakfast, brunch, a snack or dessert! If you’re having them for dessert I recommend warming them up and serving them with some vanilla ice cream or whipping cream.

I don’t have the exact nutrition facts for the almond blossoms yet but after reviewing and analyzing nutrition facts for so many Costco bakery products I bet one blossom is at least 300 calories and over 15 grams of fat. There’s probably around 20 grams of sugar and 30-50 grams of carbohydrates per blossom.

Ingredients

The ingredients list contains butter, almonds and almond flour which I appreciate. I don’t like seeing the artificial flavors, soy oil, canola oil, titanium dioxide and palm oil.
