Costco Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Chocolate Mousse Cake Review

Although Costco in the United States carries a lot of different products and brands than they do here in Canada, some products are very similar or the same. This is a good thing when we’re talking about the famous Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Cake in Canada and Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Chocolate Mousse Cake in the USA. The names of the cakes are almost identical, so I had to find out if the mousse cake in the USA is just as irresistible as the Canadian tuxedo cake.

Costco carries a variety of delicious cakes and pies in their bakery, like the Kirkland Signature Biscoff Cream Cake, Kirkland Signature Tiramisu Cake, Kirkland Signature Carrot Mini Cakes, Kirkland Signature Christmas Fruit Cake, Kirkland Signature Strawberry Shortcake, Kirkland Signature Peanut Butter Chocolate Cream Pie and the Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Pie.

One of Costco’s best products in my opinion!

Location in Store

I bought this in Kona, Hawaii and found it in the refrigerated section of the bakery. The item number is 40706.

There are some decorative chocolate sticks on the top of the cake.

Taste

We have an almost identical cake in Canada called the Tuxedo Cake. Although this cake is very similar it’s lighter because it has more of a mousse filling and the Canadian version has more of an icing filling. This tuxedo chocolate mousse cake also has more white chocolate than the Canadian tuxedo cake.

I absolutely love the brownie chunks mixed into the mousse.

The cake has a layer of moist, rich chocolaty cake on the bottom and on top of that is a layer of sweet, creamy chocolate mousse. On top of the chocolate mousse is a layer of smooth and decadent white chocolate mousse with brownie chunks throughout. On top of the white chocolate mousse is another layer of cake and the cake is topped off with a rich chocolate ganache.

There are so many delicious layers!

This cake has a lot of sweet, rich flavors going on and a little piece goes a long way! The cake is very chocolate heavy so it’s important you like chocolate if you’re picking this up. Although the cake is sweet it’s not super sugary or overly sweet. It’s more-rich than anything.

I think this is absolutely delicious and I can’t recommend it enough. it’s as good as a stand-alone bakery bought cake in my opinion.

Extremely delicious.

Cost

The cake costs $16.99 USD which isn’t bad for such a rich and decadent, delicious cake! I think it’s a very reasonable price. The tuxedo cake in Canada that’s a similar size costs $18.99 Canadian.

The cake weighs over two pounds.

Convenience

The cake needs to be kept refrigerated and has a best before date that’s four days from when we purchased it. I wouldn’t hesitate to serve this at any party or get together whether it be a birthday, retirement, engagement, anniversary or shower!

There’s enough cake to serve 12 small to medium sized pieces.

Everyone I know who’s tried this cake loves it except for people who don’t enjoy chocolate.

Nutrition

Calories

1/12th of the cake contains 410 calories, 25 grams of fat, 310 milligrams of sodium, 41 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fiber, 31 grams of sugar and five grams of protein. A cake this delectable is bound to be high in calories, fat and sugar so there aren’t any surprises here.

Ingredients

I’d rather not scour over this ingredients list, it’s full of unhealthy foods and additivies. Just to name a few of the unhealthy ingredients there is carrageenan, palm kernel oil, soybean oils, artificial flavors, artificial colors, dextrose, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate.

The cake contains wheat, milk, egg, soy and may contain peanuts, tree nuts and sesame.

  1. We love the Tuxedo cake, it’s the only bakery item we buy from Costco on a regular basis with the exception of the pumpkin pie when on sale. Everything else we used to buy has cheapened during the pandemic.

I tend not to be sucked into the echo chamber like many sycophants’ do, I feel a separate section for US Costco with a priority on Canadian reviews is needed should you continue to purse reviewing US Costco items.

    • Hi! Thanks for your comment and your feedback. I do want to mention that a ton of products I’ve reviewed from the US have now made their way to Canada like the Grass-Fed Burgers, Kirkland Signature Garlic Butter Shrimp and Reese’s Animal Crackers just to name a few. I also can’t guarantee what Canadian products I review from my store will be available at all Costco Canada locations. Costco is very tricky this way!

  2. ———–I live in the US and have always enjoyed this blog. Having some US foods has been a nice change! I don’t expect that to stay but please know some people do appreciate it 🙂

  3. I agree with Emma’s view.

This site has had some value for its focus on Canadian Costco reviews, and a shift to include US products has made it less relevant to many of us.

From my perspective and based on past comments, it’s clear that very few people are interested in US reviews here.

Additionally, we rarely visit the site, and I know others who have stopped bothering with it as well.

It would be more beneficial to maintain the focus on Canadian items and perhaps create a separate section for those who are interested in US content.

Using terms like “haters” to dismiss differing opinions is rude, unhelpful, and unhinged.

Constructive feedback should be welcomed, and a more organized approach would better serve the original audience of the site. These are the readers you should never forget and ignore.

    • Hi Aisha!
I do welcome constructive feedback. I approve every comment manually and I always approve the negative ones like this as long as they’re not inappropriate. I could easily just delete them so nobody could see them but I do value all of the feedback so I post everything. I will say there have been quite a number of US products that I’ve reviewed that have made their way to Canada and are now available in my local Costco. Anyway, I’ll be working through a few final US reviews over the next couple of months and then I don’t expect to review any additional US products for quite some time.

  4. Amazing reviews – you’re the best! (This cake is especially delicious tasting when you eat it frozen) We visit your site often before our Costco trips and it has been so helpful! Also, ignore the haters. You don’t owe them explanations or apologies. You’re doing such a great job.

  5. Natalie, enough is enough.

It’s clear you’re trying to pass off your US vacations as business expenses, but it’s not convincing anyone. Your reviews of US Costco items are especially misplaced, considering the current state of the Canadian dollar. This type of content doesn’t connect with your readers and seems more about justifying personal perks than providing value.

It’s both ridiculous and frustrating to see you prioritize content that doesn’t meet your audience’s needs.

If you’re [genuinely] committed to your blog, you need to focus on topics that accurately resonate with your readers rather than serving your own interests.

Please take this feedback to heart and realign your content with what your audience expects.

    • Hi Emma!

I’m sorry the blog isn’t meeting your expectations anymore. I actually have more US readers than Canadian so I decided to add some US product reviews because I was getting similar messages to yours from US readers. Our little family has been on only one vacation since 2018 and since I’m passionate about Costco I wanted to try and review all the different foods that were available at Costco in Hawaii while we were there and had time. I’m still reviewing Canadian products each week so you can always read those and skip the US ones.
