When I picture a fast, convenient, filling meal I usually think of fresh pasta like ravioli or tortellini. I usually gravitate towards pastas that have some sort of hearty, meat filling but I was intrigued by the unique combination of flavors in this Scoiattolo Goat Cheese and Caramelized Onion Ravioli so I decided to give it a try.
Other fresh pastas from Costco are the Kirkland Signature Organic Spinach & Cheese Ravioli, Kirkland Signature Five Cheese Tortelloni, Olivieri Cannelloni, Rana Maine Lobster Ravioli, Rana Beef & Short Rib Lasagna, Rana Tagliatelle, Seasoned White Chicken & Mushroom Sauce, Rana Butternut Squash Ravioli and the Duso’s Garlic Chicken Tortelloni.
Location in Store
The ravioli is located in the refrigerated deli section at Costco, near all the other fresh pasta. The item number is 1681288.
Taste
The ravioli are mild, but tasty. I just added a drizzle of olive oil after cooking them rather than a sauce and I think that was a good decision. A lot of sauces would probably overwhelm the subtle flavors.
The first thing I tasted was a bit of sweetness from the goat cheese. As I kept chewing, the flavor of caramelized onion became more noticeable. The two flavors are pretty well balanced; neither overpowers the other.
I thought the amount of filling in the pieces was about right. Some of these pastas with filling can be pretty doughy without a lot of filling.
Overall I liked this ravioli, but for some reason it almost seems more like an appetizer than an entree. A few pieces are enjoyable, but I’m not sure I’d want to eat a big plate of it for a meal. I think it would need to be paired with the right sauce to work, but I’m not sure what that would be.
Cost
The ravioli comes with two 454 gram packs and the regular cost is $14.99 Canadian at Costco. I was able to snag it on sale for only $9.99 Canadian though. I think the sale price is much more reasonable than the regular price and would only buy it again on sale.
Convenience
I’m not sure if it was just the pack that I had, but my ravioli was all stuck together when I dumped it into my pot. Some of it came apart easily during cooking, but not all of it. A couple of pieces came apart while I tried to gently separate them.
The ravioli needs to be kept refrigerated and the best before date is about a month from when I purchased it. The flavor of the ravioli makes it a bit less versatile than other kinds of ravioli, there aren’t a ton of sauces that would go well with it. I should also mention the ravioli is a product of Italy!
A simple butter sauce, alfredo sauce or just a drizzle of olive oil pairs well. I also think a drizzle of balsamic glaze might be nice!

Not only is this high in carbohydrates but it’s also high in calories, fat, sugar and sodium. I wasn’t expecting the sugar to be as high as it is and the sodium is also extremely high! This definitely isn’t a “light” meal.
Ingredients
The ingredients list has pretty much everything you’d expect to see in a packaged ravioli. The ravioli contains wheat, eggs and milk and may contain allergens like tree nuts, crustacean, fish, soy and mustard.

Overall
Give it a try!
I think this ravioli is tasty and would work well as an appetizer for a dinner party! I probably wouldn’t buy it for a second time though although it was yummy due to the nutrition facts.

We just had this for supper a few nights ago. I sauté some onions, mushrooms and red peppers in olive oil then add Victoria White Linen marinara sauce (my go to from Costco) and a bit of Kirkland pesto. This is spooned over a serving of 7 ravioli per person and sprinkled with fresh parm. Very quick and tasty. That said, it’s not my fave ravioli filling, I’ve had others I prefer but if it’s on sale I’ll “give it a try”! 😉
