Costco Jonny Pops Review

Popsicles are generally loaded with artificial flavors and colors but kids love them and they’re perfect on a hot summer day. These Costco Jonny Pops are organic, naturally flavored and have no artificial colors! They’re a lot more expensive than your standard popsicles but does the taste make them worth the added cost?

Summer is here so that means it’s time for lots of icy cool sweet treats! I’ve reviewed a lot of frozen desserts from Costco on the blog like the Kirkland Signature Super Premium Ice Cream, Helados Mexico Ice Cream Bars, Kirkland Signature Vanilla Almond Ice Cream Bars, Melona Bars, So Delicious Dairy-Free Dipped Salted Caramel Frozen Desserts Bars, Tru Fru Frozen Chocolate Covered Strawberries and the Enlightened Keto Ice Cream Bars.

Location in Store

These can found in the freezer aisle at Costco, near all the other frozen desserts. The item number is 1788022.

Taste

I told myself I was going to try hard to taste the different flavors as I ate my Jonny Pop, but I gave up on that fairly quickly. The layers aren’t that thick and it’s difficult to tell the three red/pink ones at the top apart. They’re all pretty tasty though!

So colorful!

The orange and lemon layers were obviously easier to see and taste. The orange has nice orange flavor and the lemon has a nice lemon flavor, though I think I enjoyed the red and pink layers the most even though I couldn’t necessarily tell them apart. I found the popsicles quite flavorful throughout all of the layers. They definitely aren’t watery or weak.

Ready to try!

The box suggests that the popsicles have simple ingredients, but a quick look at the ingredients list tells you there’s a lot more in them than just water, juice and sugar. That wasn’t a huge surprise to me as all of the layers had the somewhat artificial flavors you’d expect just from looking at them.

Cost

These are expensive! $17.99 Canadian for 18 popsicles, they’re definitely not worth that much.

Each popsicle comes individually packaged.

Convenience

The popsicles need to be kept frozen and the best before date is about 13 months from when I purchased them. I think kids and adults will both enjoy these during the hot summer days and it’s nice that they don’t contain any artificial colors!

There’s no filling in these popsicles. Just a regular popsicle.

Nutrition

Calories

One popsicle contains 60 calories, zero grams of fat, 14 grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, 14 grams of sugar, zero grams of protein and zero milligrams of sodium. For seeming like a “healthier” popsicle that’s not that low in sugar.

The calories and fat are low and the carbohydrates aren’t super high either.

Ingredients

I like that they use organic ingredients and real juice and concentrates. I really appreciate that these don’t have any artificial coloring added as well. The popsicles are gluten-free and may contain milk, soy and coconut.

Taste: 7.5/10

Cost: 5/10

Convenience: 10/10

Nutrition: 3/10 Not nutritious but not as bad as other popsicles that would get a 0.

Overall

Give it a try!

These popsicles aren’t spectacular, but I enjoyed them and thought they were pretty tasty for a reasonably-sized 60 calorie treat. They’ll definitely hit the spot on a hot summer day.

Have you tried these Jonny Pops from Costco? What did you think of them?
