When I first saw the Greenhouse Ginger Defence Immunity Organic Wellness Shots at Costco, I couldn’t decide whether they were a drink or some kind of medicine. I didn’t buy them right away. The first ones we actually tried were given to us by one of my husband’s coworkers when he had a cold. I don’t know how effective they are boosting your body’s immune system, but they’re very refreshing in their own unique way!
I’ve only reviewed a few products marketed for health from from Costco like the Organika Collagen Powder, Freshbell Pomegranate Collagen Jelly Stick, Greenhouse Organic Probiotic Lemonade, Sambazon Acai Superfood Drink, Wildbrine Raw Organic Sauerkraut and the GTS Organic & Raw Gingerade Kombucha.
Location in Store
This is located in the refrigerated beverage section at Costco, near the iced coffee and juice. The item number is 1345535.
Taste
You can choose to dilute these with water or take them as a shot because they are strong. If you like really strong ginger flavor, you’ll enjoy these. They’re a bit spicy/hot from the mix of ginger and black pepper extract but the orange and apple help to alleviate the heat.
The Ginger Defence tastes like a very strong, concentrated ginger juice and is quite refreshing when it’s cold! I enjoy taking them as a shot, especially when I’m sick.
Cost
There are 10 teeny tiny 60-milliliter containers in the box and I paid $15.99 Canadian, which isn’t cheap at all! Most products marketed like this aren’t cheap though.
Convenience
The shots need to be kept refrigerated and the best-before date is about a year from when he purchased them.
Each ginger defense comes in a small bottle with a twist off cap so it’s easy to drink it on the go and pop one in your purse, lunch bag or work bag. You can choose to drink it quickly straight from the bottle or dilute it in water or possibly warm tea.
Nutrition
Calories
Sometimes I find that the amount of calories and sugar in health products completely offsets any health benefits but I don’t find that with these.
One 60-milliliter bottle contains 20 calories, less than a gram of fat, five grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, two grams of sugar, less than a gram of protein and one milligram of sodium.
Ingredients
Each bottle contains 9600 milligrams of fermented ginger and lemongrass, 5400 milligrams of ginger, and 3210 milligrams of turmeric. The ingredients list is short and sweet with all healthy ingredients listed.
The ginger defence is organic, gluten-free, dairy-free and doesn’t contain any added sugar or artificial sweetener. It’s also Non-GMO and bottled in glass!

Overall
Give it a try!
I can’t say for sure these do anything to prevent or treat colds (we’re constantly sick from the viruses my daughter brings home from daycare) but I can say they’re refreshing and tasty.
Have you tried the Costco Greenhouse Ginger Defence? What did you think of it?

I like to mix them with pineapple juice, coconut water and seltzer. Comes close the the drink ‘The Remedy’ that Earl’s has served off and on alongside their brunch menu.
Oh that sounds so good!
