Costco Upper Crust Bakery Tuxedo Cake Bites Review

When I think of tuxedo cake and Costco, I think of the famous Kirkland Signature Tuxedo Cake! These Upper Crust Bakery Tuxedo Cake Bites offer the great chocolatey taste of tuxedo cake in a bite-sized treat. Are they as good as their more famous, larger relative?

Location in Store

These are located in the bakery section at Costco and the item number is 3677304.

Taste

They remind me of the Kirkland Signature Double Chocolate Muffins with a sweet icing. The cake itself is fairly moist, not super flavorful and tastes a lot like the muffins. The cake is fairly moist but still crumbles and tastes pretty typical for a store-bought chocolate cake.

They look very tuxedo-like but do they taste it?

The icing is quite sweet with a bit of chocolate flavor but the chocolate is kind of overpowered by the sweetness. The tuxedo cake bites are enjoyable but nothing special. They’re basically just a chocolate cake bite. I don’t think there’s anything really tuxedo about them.

The cake is moist.

Cost

The 850-gram container costs $11.99 Canadian, which isn’t super cheap but isn’t expensive either. There’s a lot of tuxedo bites in the container.

Convenience

The bites come in a resealable plastic container that can be easily popped into the freezer. The best-before date is about a month from when we purchased them. These are great to bring to share at any event or something like a potluck.

The icing isn’t anything special.

We had a staff Christmas party where they were served in little cupcake wrappers and it made them look really fancy and cute! The kids at the Christmas party seemed to really enjoy these.

Ingredients

I’m not surprised by the ingredients list, I figured there would be lots of ingredients I don’t love. Soybean oil. corn syrup solids, canola oil and palm oil are just a few of the ingredients I dislike seeing. I don’t know why they need to use artificial vanilla flavor rather than real vanilla, I’m guessing it’s due to cost.

The tuxedo bites contain milk, wheat, egg, soy and sulphites.
