Costco Tru Grill Grilled Chicken Strips Review

If you’re looking for a quick and convenient protein option to add to things like salads, sandwiches and wraps, these Tru Grill Grilled Chicken Strips from Costco might be for you. They don’t have a lot of seasoning, so they work with a variety of different flavors and they last in the fridge for a few months despite not using preservatives! Will they fool you into thinking you’re eating a chicken breast that you grilled on your barbecue?

Some other convenient chicken products from Costco are the Amylu Paleo Chicken Sausages, Kevin’s Teriyaki-Style Chicken Stir-Fry, Fresh Additions Fully-Cooked Chicken Breast Bites, Kirkland Signature Chicken Bakes, Kirkland Signature Chicken Tortilla Soup, Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken, Kirkland Signature Chicken Pot Pie and the Kirkland Signature Chicken Tacos.

Location in Store

These were bought at the Kalispell, Montana Costco. I found them in the refrigerated deli section near the other refrigerated meat products like the Cuisine Solutions Grass-Fed Beef Sirloin. The item number is 1057076.

Taste

Somehow this chicken keeps in the refrigerator for months! We didn’t get around to eating ours for two months or so after we bought it and it tastes fresh.

Straight out of the package and served on a plate.

The chicken is mildly seasoned but has a nice smoky grilled flavor. I think it flavor is kind of perfect because it’s not bland, but it’s also very versatile – I think the mild smoky flavor would work well in pretty much anything you might want to use this chicken in (salads, sandwiches, etc.)

Ready to eat!

When I ate the chicken cold, I found it moist enough, but after microwaving it was just slightly on the dry side. It was still good though.

The chicken pairs perfectly with salad.

As you might expect, some pieces have some gristly/hard bits, but it seemed pretty minimal to me. There were also a couple of pieces with some red marks on them. Nearly the whole pack was edible, good meat though.

Cost

The chicken comes in a two-pack and costs $13.49 USD. Each pack weighs a pound and the entire weight of the two packs is two pounds.

Sugar-free and gluten-free with no artificial ingredients.

Convenience

Each pack is resealable and you can serve the chicken cold right out the package or heat it up. The best-before date is over four months from when we purchased it. The package needs to stay refrigerated.

The chicken isn’t seasoned with anything strongly flavored so you can use this in many ways. On a salad, in a stir-fry, for tacos, quesadillas, sandwiches or even in a pasta dish. You could also eat the chicken just as it is with some vegetables as a low-carb meal.

Nutrition

Calories

An 84-gram or three-ounce serving contains 110 calories, two and a half grams of fat, 260 milligrams of sodium, zero grams of carbohydrates, fiber and sugar and 22 grams of protein.

That’s quite a bit of protein for not very many calories, much fat or too much sodium.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is extremely short and sweet, chicken breast is the main ingredient along with a small amount of vinegar, salt and “natural flavors”. The only ingredient I don’t love is the natural flavors because we really don’t know what that means or is.

  1. How long are these good for once opened? I find it hard to believe they are good through the expiration date once opened. I can’t seem to find any information out about this.

      • Thank you, my thoughts, exactly, but most food products state to use within a certain amount of days once opened, and I have searched these with a microscope lol, nothing. Doesn’t seem right.
