Costco Kirkland Signature Organic Hummus Review

Hummus is a great way to add some flavor to healthy snacks, and this Kirkland Signature Organic Hummus comes in single-serving cups that are perfect for snacks and lunches on the go. If the hummus itself is good, this could be one of those staple Costco products that you want to keep in your fridge all the time. So is it?

Other dips and similar products from Costco are the Fontaine Sante Caramelized Onion Hummus, Fontaine Sante Mini Hummus, Stonemill Kitchens Buffalo Ranch Dip, Fontaine Sante Spinach Dip, La Terra Fina Queso Dip with Cheddar, La Terra Fina Spinach Artichoke & Parmesan Dip, Kirkland Signature Organic Chunky Guacamole, Wholly Guacamole Organic Minis and the La Terra Fina Smoked Sockeye Salmon Dip.

Location in Store

I bought this hummus at the Montana Costco, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it makes its way to Canada because a ton of products I got in Montana have. The item number is 1280819 and I found it in the refrigerated deli section with all the dips.

Easily dippable.

Taste

This is a good basic hummus. I like that it doesn’t have additional flavors and is just plain and simple so it’s versatile. I did notice a bit of a weird aftertaste that tastes a bit like a hint of lime or vinegar, but it’s not enough to turn me off the hummus.

I love hummus with the Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers from Costco.

The hummus is pretty garlicky and salty. The texture is thick and smooth. It works well for dipping and spreading. Beyond that, there isn’t a ton to say about the hummus. It’s a decent staple product. I taste-tested my hummus with the Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers that I like to eat regularly and they went well together. I could definitely see myself bringing a container of hummus with some of those crackers and some veggies in my work lunches.

Cost

The box comes with 20 individual cups of hummus and costs USD 7.89. Each cup weighs 71 grams.

Convenience

I love the individual cups of hummus because I can bring them to work, pack them in my daughter’s lunch or just open one when I want a bit of hummus at home without wasting a big container.

A convenient snack or lunch item.

The hummus needs to be kept refrigerated and the best-before date is about six weeks from when I purchased the hummus. Because the hummus is a plain, basic hummus it goes well with vegetables, all kinds of crackers, bread and works as a spread on sandwiches.

The cups aren’t small; they have more than enough hummus for an individual serving.

Nutrition

Calories

One cup contains 170 calories, 13 grams of fat, 290 milligrams of sodium, 11 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fiber, one gram of sugar and four grams of protein. The amount of fat may seem high but it’s coming from the tahini and oil so it’s not necessarily bad fat.

Ingredients

The hummus is dairy-free, gluten-free, organic and vegan. Sesame is a major ingredient however if you’re allergic to sesame. The only ingredient I don’t love is the sunflower/canola oil, I’d prefer hummus made with avocado or olive oil but I’ve never seen that in a store-bought hummus.

  1. If you can’t eat all the cups before the expiry date, they freeze well. I just take a frozen one in my lunch. Thaws quickly. Love these and the guacamole minis. They freeze too!
