Stir-fries can be pretty healthy dishes – the main components are vegetables and a protein. They might get a little less healthy depending on what kind of oil you use to cook them and what type of starch you serve them with, but the starting point is good. This Kevin’s Teriyaki-Style Chicken Stir-Fry from Costco takes those healthy starting ingredients to create a meal that’s very easy to prepare and also gluten-free, soy-free and dairy-free! Are there any downsides to it?

Taste
Firstly I’ll point out that there isn’t very much broccoli at all in the stir-fry, mainly carrots and cauliflower. There’s enough sauce in the package that you could add a lot more veggies to bulk this up a bit without the stir-fry tasting bland or dry.
The chicken is quite good, I really like it. It’s tender white meat without any gristle or fat and there’s a decent amount of it in the dish. The sauce is fairly sweet with a hint of garlic and doesn’t have the strong soy flavor that I find in most teriyaki sauces.
The vegetables are still firm/crisp after cooking and not soggy. I think there’s way too much sauce in the box but a lot of people like a lot of sauce. My recommendation is to not use all of the sauce at first unless you’re adding extra vegetables or serving this on a bed of rice or noodles. If you want more sauce after you can always add more. I used it all and found it too saucy, I had a pool of sauce on my plate.
Cost
The 907-gram box of chicken, sauce and vegetables costs $17.49 Canadian which is expensive! This could feed maybe two adults or if having smaller portions, two adults and two small children.
You could stretch the meal by serving it with rice or noodles. You’re definitely paying for the fact it’s gluten-free, soy-free, doesn’t have artificial ingredients and is convenient.
Convenience
The heating instructions for the chicken stir-fry suggest using a skillet to heat the already fully-cooked meal which was quite easy for my husband to do. The stir-fry needs to be kept refrigerated and the best-before date is four weeks from when I purchased it.
I think this is a good family meal, the portion sizes might be a bit small but I think kids would enjoy having this over some rice or noodles.
Nutrition
Calories
One-third of the package contains 240 calories, four and a half grams of fat, 21 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, 15 grams of sugar, 24 grams of protein and 1270 milligrams of sodium.
That’s a ton of sodium! The calories and fat are low and the amount of protein is pretty good but if you’re watching your sodium intake you’ll want to steer clear of this dish. I will say that most teriyaki stir-fry dishes do have a lot of sodium in them.
Ingredients
I love the ingredients list. It’s all ingredients I’m familiar with and everything seems reasonably healthy. The stir-fry is gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free and has chicken that’s raised without the use of antibiotics.

I thought it was a great dish too and was very disappointed it is not currently available at Costco. I have several family members that I recommended it to and they also have expressed disappointment that they can no longer find it at Costco. I hope they bring it back. I prefer it to the Kevin’s honey garlic chicken dinner that is now being stocked at Costco.
About 2 weeks i bought the Kevin,s teriyaki stir fry chicken. My wife and i loved it.Went back to Costco today to buy a couple more.No Costco in Winnipeg had any.Hope they stock it in the future
