Costco Kirkland Signature Organic Chicken Bone Broth Review

It’s soup season! When the weather gets cooler, I find that soup is suddenly a lot more appealing. This Kirkland Signature Organic Chicken Bone Broth seems to be made with the idea that people will drink it to warm up on cold days – it’s labeled as sipping bone broth and there’s a picture of a steaming mug on the box! Personally, I think I’ll stick to coffee, tea and hot chocolate as my drinks of choice for warming up, but it’s an interesting idea. Is the broth tasty enough to drink straight? How else can you use it?

Other soups from Costco are the Kirkland Signature Brocolli Cheddar Soup, Kirkland Signature Chicken Tortilla Soup, Rao’s Vegetable Minestrone Soup, Cuisine Adventures French Onion Soup, Authentic Asian Hand Wrapped Shrimp Wonton Soup, Tim Horton’s Chicken Noodle Soup and the Johnny’s Potato Cheddar Soup Mix.

Location in Store

I bought this from the Kalispell, Montana Costco and the item number is 1452258. This is located in thr aisle with all the spices and other broth like chicken stock.

Taste

First off, I’ll start by saying I’m not one to sip on chicken broth, I’d much prefer to eat a bowl of soup but I enjoyed trying this as a sipping broth! I did end up preferring to use the broth to make soup though rather than sip it.

It’s very flavorful with a strong chicken taste, I like that it’s not too salty. It tastes similar to homemade turkey/chicken broth my mom makes and the soup I made with it is excellent. A lot of people sip bone broth for the health benefits, it’s a healthy, low carb snack that fills the belly.

I didn’t mind sipping it but prefer using it to make soup.

Cost

The box comes with six 946 milliliter cartons of bone broth and costs $19.99 USD which is not cheap! However, other organic bone broths aren’t cheap either. Buying the box from Costco is actually cheaper than buying six individual cartons of bone broth.

Nine grams of protein per eight-ounce serving.

Convenience

There’s a recipe for a ginger turmeric sipping bone broth on the box that looks like it would be delicious. The best-before date on the broth is 11 months from when we purchased it. Once the broth has been opened it needs to be refrigerated and used within seven days.

Bone broth can be sipped or used to make soups! I also love using it to make rice or quinoa to add some additional flavor and protein.

Nutrition

Health Benefits

Bone broth is known for aiding digestion and increasing collagen which helps build muscle, and bones and improves hair and nail growth. Also a lot of people find it can help aid the immune system and improve joint pain and stiffness.

Calories

One eight-ounce serving of broth contains 45 calories, less than a gram of fat, zero grams of carbohydrates, 95 milligrams of sodium, zero grams of fiber and sugar and nine grams of protein. That’s an awesome amount of protein for only 45 calories!

This is perfect for snack for individuals with diabetes or anyone following a keto or low-carb diet. I really appreciate that the sodium isn’t very high.

Ingredients

All of the ingredients are very healthy and organic which I appreciate. The only one ingredient I don’t love is the “organic flavor” just because you never know what the flavor actually is.

The broth is gluten-free, dairy-free and organic.

Must buy!

I didn’t mind this for sipping but I absolutely love it as a convenient base for soups and wouldn’t hesitate to repurchase it.

  1. I discovered this last month and I can’t say enough good things about it. I sip a carton everyday with pepper. Delicious and filling.
I’m bringing my Mom in Canada a few cases because she loves it too. (I’m in Michigan) Please keep this as a regular item Costco!
