Costco The Keg Prime Rib Beef Burgers Review

Costco has a few different frozen beef burgers to choose from. The Keg Prime Rib Beef Burgers get their brand name from Canada’s well-known chain of steakhouses. How do these Keg burgers compare to other options like Costco’s own Kirkland Signature burgers?

Frozen burger patties from Costco are a staple in our freezer during the summer months. We usually buy the Kirkland brand but decided to give these Keg burgers a try!

Other burgers from Costco I’ve reviewed are the Costco Connie’s Kitchen Chicken Burgers, Costco dr. Praegers Organic California Veggie Burgers, Costco Trident Wild Pacific Pink Salmon Burgers, Costco Sunrise Farms Chicken Burgers, Costco Kirkland Signature Lean Sirloin Beef Patties and the Costco Kirkland Signature Lean Ground Beef Patties.

Location in Store

You can find these Keg burgers in the freezer aisle at Costco, near all the other burgers. The item number is 1136752.

Taste

I really enjoy these burgers. They’re juicy, thick and seasoned really nicely. Right away I notice that the Costco The Keg Prime Rib Beef Burgers are a little bit on the softer side compared to the Kirkland Signature sirloin burgers and are also very moist.

Ready for the grill!

These burgers don’t have that hard crust or char that burgers often get when barbecued. The burgers are full of seasoning and flavor. You don’t need any additional sauce or seasoning but cheese is optional on all burgers,

Cost

A box of twelve burgers costs $21.99 Canadian. Definitely not the cheapest burgers you can buy but they’re pretty large.

Convenience

These The Keg Prime Rib Beef Burgers from Costco come pre-seasoned so they’re very convenient! All you have to do to prepare them is cook them. You can choose to pan fry, broil, or grill the burgers.

If you’re grilling them they take about 6 to 7 minutes per side. I use a thermometer pen to make sure my burgers are cooked! The burgers need to be kept frozen and the best before date is ten months from the date we purchased the burgers

These are great for to keep in the freezer for summer! I definitely would serve them to unexpected guests or for a big barbecue party.

Nutrition

These aren’t exactly healthy. Each burger is 460 calories, 39 grams of fat, three grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre and sugar and 22 grams of protein. That’s a good amount of protein but the calories and fat are a lot higher than a chicken breast with a similar amount of protein.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is short and sweet, beef, water, flavour, salt, spice extract and canola oil. I prefer the Costco Kirkland Signature Lean Sirloin Beef Burgers because they only have one ingredient listed, no canola oil or “flavour”.

Overall

Give it a try!

I like these burgers a lot and will definitely buy them again. My favorite burgers are still the Costco Kirkland Signature Sirloin Beef Burgers but these are a close second!

Have you tried these burgers? What did you think of them?

  1. The content of a burger should read: Meat. Period. IF there were things added then onions, salt, pepper. That’s IT. No water. No flavour. “flavour????” what is that? Canola oil?? WHY???

  2. I read your comments about it being the best burger ever, and I have to say I found them digusting. I’m a foodie. I make my food from scratch and never buy processed. I saw “Keg” I thought, these *have* to be good right?
The meat tasted like anything but meat, if at all. It looked bleached, had the consistency and look of cardboard.
I’ve just had my dinner and I’m completely repulsed. Worse burgers I’ve had in 50 years.
I would have written Costco directly but thy don’t really make it possible for you to complain about a product.

  3. These are gross. Everything you don’t want in a burger. They taste like cheap filler. My senses were raising red flags from the first bite and I regret finishing it.
The keg should be ashamed they put their name on this low quality crap.

  4. Just tried the Keg Burger patties. They are highly processed…so much so that the meat seems slimy and mushy. It’s an awful texture. It’s also too salty. I found a hard bit in my burger as well.

  5. Are these safe for a dog to share? None of us should be taking extra MSG, especially pets. What exactly are the “flavour” and “spices”. Does it have added MSG in any form? I dog sit a wee dog occasionally and I was going to give her a piece of the patty, but refrained until I know EXACTLY what is in it. I appreciate your help./Roberta

      • Thanks, Natalie. Is there any way I can get disclosure on what ‘flavour’ and ‘spices’ are actually. I guess if they are not forthcoming on disclosing what they actually are, I will refrain from eating them. I cannot consume MSG myself so I will not take a chance on the little doggie. I appreciate your response.

  6. These burgers taste great, and we buy them quite often. As of late, we have been finding hard pieces in the burgers. We think they are pieces of bone, and we are afraid of breaking pieces of our teeth. Hopefully The Keg can deal with this issue in a timely manner.

  7. There’s a disproportionate amount of cartlidge/bone fragments in these burgers (every burger tasted) compared to other brands. Everyone noticed and only one will continue to eat them. We purchased these approximately 4 weeks ago and frankly we can’t get through the package. The taste is ok but we’re definitely not buying again.

    • Right on. In my family , we refer to cartilage/ bone fragments as “toenails”. I will NOT eat toenail filled meat. We tried these and ugh even the kids and dog ran the other way. Never again. We do like the premium Kirkland ones though , with 0 carb and just beef meat.

  8. I purchased a package of these a few weeks ago for a family barbecue. although they’re very convenient they’re way over salted- the salt is so over powering we ended up throwing them away and just ate the other meats that were on the grill that day’
I will never purchase again, they’re horrible!
