Costco Kirkland Signature Turkey Breast Review

Turkey dinner is delicious, but it’s something I only really get to eat on big holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. It’s just too much work to prepare a whole turkey, and even a smaller turkey tends to be pretty big without a few guests to help eat it.

This Kirkland Signature Oven Browned Turkey Breast from Costco offers a very easy way to enjoy turkey dinner whenever you feel like it. It’s precooked, so the prep work required is minimal. Want to skip the fancy turkey dinner and just make some turkey sandwiches? It’s great for that too! The question is, does this smallish turkey breast roast pack in the flavor of a full turkey?

Location in Store

This Kirkland Turkey Breast is located in the deli section at Costco and the item number is 47500. I bought it in Kalispell, Montana and I’m not 100% sure if they’ll carry this in my local Costco or not. If they do, I bet it will be around Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Taste

There really aren’t any big surprises with this Kirkland Signature Turkey Breast. It’s a simple but good-quality product. You get a generous amount of white turkey breast meat to enjoy however you like – as a hot entree or cold on a sandwich or salad.

Ready to eat!

We heated our turkey breast by adding a bit of water and covering it with aluminum foil and it worked pretty well. It wasn’t the most moist turkey I’ve ever had, but it certainly wasn’t too dry. The flavor is nice but simple.

We served the turkey breast with scalloped potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce!

The only ingredients aside from the turkey are turkey broth, sea salt and sugar, so you taste the turkey more than anything. It’s a little salty, but not in a bad way.

Based on the ingredients I’m a little surprised that I find the turkey breast a bit processed tasting. I’m wondering if they inject it with turkey broth or salt.

The best thing about this turkey breast is the quality of the meat. It’s almost all good turkey with virtually no gristle or fat that I noticed.

Great for a convenient Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.

Even though we heated up our turkey, I’m excited to try it on sandwiches. I love a good turkey sandwich and think this turkey breast will be perfect.

Cost

The cost of the turkey breast is $18.87 USD, which isn’t bad in my opinion. There’s a lot of turkey meat there. Enough to serve dinner to four people and have leftovers.

Convenience

The turkey breast needs to be kept refrigerated and has a freeze or use-by date that’s about 6 weeks from when we purchased it.

Heating instructions.

The turkey breast is already fully cooked so you technically don’t even need to cook it. However, if you’re serving it for Thanksgiving or Christmas the heating instructions are very simple.

To cook the turkey breast, place it in a shallow pan with 1/2 cup of water, cover the pan with foil, and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about an hour. It’s done when the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

We served our turkey breast with cranberry sauce, stuffing and scalloped potatoes! It was like a Christmas in July in our house. You could also use the breast meat to make sandwiches, turkey pot pie, casseroles or turkey soup.

Nutrition

Calories

A 56-gram serving of turkey contains 60 calories, half a gram of fat, 290 milligrams of sodium, zero grams of fiber, sugar and carbohydrates and 12 grams of protein.

This is really low in calories, fat and high in protein. However, keep in mind a 56-gram serving isn’t really that much and I think a lot of people will eat way more than that. The Sodium is the only thing to really be cautious of if you’re on a salt-restricted diet.

Ingredients

Why does the ingredients list have to include sugar if the nutrition facts say zero grams of sugar? Otherwise, the ingredients list is super short and sweet with turkey breast, turkey broth and salt being the main ingredients.

Overall

Give it a try!

For whatever reason I prefer turkey breast that I bake at home from raw. This is far more convenient though and pretty close to being just as tasty!

  1. We didn’t care for it, tried to find where it was grown and there isn’t any information. Taste was bland and it seems to be processed. Hope its real meat and not lab grown. Would love any info

  2. I enjoy this turkey but if only half of this turkey breast is used how long can the other half stay in the freezer or if you just cut it in half to freeze.. how long can it stay in the freezer and be safe to eat after thawing

    • Sorry, the amount of salt is nowhere near high enough to preserve (cure) meat and make it food-safe in its original packaging for months. Manufacturers don’t have to list nitrates and nitrites if they are “naturally sourced.” Producers source it from celery juice (celery essence), which has a high concentration of nitrate. Nitrite can form from nitrate, more so when a “natural” enzyme is used. No doubt the turkey broth listed in the ingredients contains those preservatives. So this is no different from packaged deli meat that actually lists sodium nitrate / sodium nitrite.

  3. We have a family member that is allergic to soybeans and soy by products. Could you please not brown it in soybean oil? Lots of people are sensitive to soy.

  4. I made this for my husband last year for Thanksgiving and he said it is pretty salty. This is the only small precooked turkey breast I can get here in Mexico and we don’t have an oven in our house to make one from scratch. Is there a way to make it less salty? TIA.

  5. The only thing about your site is when you feature products from the US most of the time they are not carried in our BC stores
Nice to see but can’t try if we wanted to

  6. This is one product I will definitely try. Like Susan’s comment, I will use it for sandwiches and quick meals, like the ham from Costco. I can see using it with the butter chicken or tikka masala sauces. First sauté vegetables – onion, peppers, add sauce, simmer, then turkey.
    Thank you for your reviews.

  7. We buy this turkey breast all of the time. I slice it, measure 4 ounces, wrap in plastic wrap and keep in the freezer for sandwiches or tossing on a salad.
    Delicious and convenient.
Real turkey. Much better than the slimy deli turkey.

    • Absolutely agree with your comments. We use for sandwiches and love the flavor. So much better than slimy deli turkey. Raw turkey breasts are hard to find and $$$.

  8. We really like the turkey breast. Have served it several times for holiday dinners. We use it mostly for slicing for sandwiches Way less expensive then always buying lunch meet and it tastes much better and the texture is steal turkey, not something pressed. Highly recommend
