More heat than you’d expect for a medium salsa!
Please note that this review was not paid for or sponsored by any third party. I purchased this product with my own money and the opinions in this review are strictly my own. I am not affiliated with Costco or any of its suppliers. I am just a fan of the company. I write these reviews to help my fellow shoppers.
Today I’m talking salsa! If you don’t already know my absolute favorite salsa from Costco is the Garden Fresh Gourmet Mango Peach Salsa! I’ve also reviewed the Big Taste Fresh Mango Salsa from Costco as well here. Today I’m reviewing the Costco Kirkland Signature Organic Salsa.
Taste
This salsa is a “medium” heat salsa but it definitely packs quite a bit of heat! Even my husband who can tolerate really spicy food pointed out that for a medium salsa this salsa is quite spicy. It’s still delicious though. Very tomato-y and also not very thick, more on the runny side with a few chunks of onions and tomatoes, I like my salsa pretty thick and chunky. I mentioned to my husband that the flavor of the salsa reminded me of a very spicy version of V8 (vegetable juice). I would label this a “pretty standard” salsa meaning it would be great for nachos, tacos or on burritos etc.
Cost
The salsa comes in a two-pack and each salsa is 1 litre! That’s a ton of salsa, I paid $9.99 Canadian for the two-pack.
Convenience
This is a ton of salsa so if you only eat salsa ever so often you might find this two pack a little too much. As I stated in my opinion this is a very versatile salsa that could be used in a variety of ways. The best before date on the salsa is about is about a year and almost two months from the date I purchased the salsa.
Nutrition
¼ cup of salsa is 20 calories, 0 grams of fat, 250 mg of sodium, four grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, three grams of sugar and one gram of protein. The salsa is organic.
I’m pretty sure I have enough salsa to last me for a year at this point but I didn’t mind the taste of this salsa and would repurchase it if there were a time where I were in need of lots of salsa for some reason!

What’s your all-time favorite salsa? Do you make your own?
I love the salsa and consider it some of the best I’ve had, certainly at this price. I really don’t like the new glass- black top jars though. Have opened 4 different ones to date and each has been nearly impossible to open the first time. Kids are on extremely tight. These certainly are the most difficult (so far) of any item I’ve come across.
In addition to being organic at an unbeatable price, this salsa also has No Oil of Any Kind so it is a great heart healthier alternative that has so many uses beyond salsa.
I bought this product last night at a Tampa Costco.
I opened a jar and it was rancid.
Man, I’m getting tired of returning junk to Costco.
The quality has fallen through the floor.
People should look at the comments at Amazon.ca, from those reselling it there. Here are some of them:
I thought I was buying salsa, not water with a side of salsa
Watery, with no substance in texture or taste. They’ve added spiciness to mask the lack of effort in the recipe and/or products used.
Usually a Happy Customer
mostly liquid, and has a plastic, chemical taste.
Had to return to Costco
The taste is horrid….way too much cumin. I’ll stick to other organic salsa brands. It really was terrible. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Gross
I didn’t like this at all. Dont buy it if you dont like Cilantro. Quite runny; not thick like Pace. Very fine consistency; looks like it was finely chopped in a food processor. Spicier than other medium salsas. I’m taking it back to Costco for a refund
Taste terrible

I greatly disliked this salsa. Far too spicy. Burning water on top. Soup rather than salsa. Not Medium by Hot-Medium perhaps.
If it disappears from a warehouse it’s because of the large quantity of returns.
It’s fine to have this product, but the result shouldn’t be a dramatic surprise/shock. Give samples on it beforehand.
Anything “Kirkland” should be a proven seller, not a trial product. Kirkland means “as good as or better than the leading brand”. Not this one.
This is my favorite salsa ever, love the spiciness, the fact that it’s organic and the texture is just right for me. I am disappointed that they removed it from Costco, I don’t see it in store anymore. They often do that with great products.
Ingredients sound very good, except for the cane sugar. That’s a big no no.
Better than high fructose syrup, though…a REAL no no!
Older red topped version was much better than the newer black top jar recipie. Too bad! Green Mountain Gringo tinkered with a great formula & also screwed it up yeaes ago. Why do they change what works???
This is my favorite salsa, I go through a jar in 2 nights on average and an unhealthy amount of the costco organic chips. Does anyone know who makes this? They changed recipes recently (now evident by the black lid, not red anymore) and I can def taste a difference. I also verified that the list of ingredients changed as well having an old and new jar right when they switched. I wish they would go back.
I used to have bad luck with the seals on this salsa being broken when i first started buying it, so i’d always check the bottom and seal to make sure it hadn’t gone bad (only happend with 2 bottles).
It’s the worst when they change an already good product!
I absolutely love this salsa. Unfortunately it is not stocked in Costco anymore and I cannot order online. Is there anyway I can purchase this product?
I just opened this Salsa last night after shaking before opening it went off like a bomb. Salsa friggin everywhere. In my eyes, on every cupboard and wall in my kitchen, my clothes, the knife block every spice jar on the stove. Total disaster!! Even after was getting the chunks of salsa off my face and rinsing my eyes there was still vapor left in the jar. There’s needs to be a warning on this container.
Oh nooo! That sounds awful. I hope your eyes are okay!
Are you sure you took the lid off AFTER shaking and not BEFORE? Just kidding. I shake mine up all the time because when you first open it without shaking, I find that it has settled and the top is rather watery. After shaking, it’s a much better consistency. I’ve never had a problem with it blowing up like a bomb, though.
